Malawi: Plot to assassinate Muluzi revealed

image Muluzi: Bingu wants him killed before elections

Malawi government has plotted to assassinate President Bingu Mutharika’s main challenger for next year’s general elections, Dr Bakili Muluzi  using Police Mobile Force (PMF) it has been revealed.

Police sources in Lilongwe unhappy with the plot have revealed to Nyasa Times that the assassination had been planned for this Thursday when Muluzi will be holding whistle stop political meetings in the central region districts of Salima and Dowa.

“The operation command is in the hands of PMF C company officer-in-charge Superintendent Bengo,” disclosed a high ranking police officer.

Another Police chief corroborated the story; “Heavily armed PMF officers with the sharpest artillery available will leave Lilongwe at 4am for Salima in three Land Cruisers, an armored vehicle and a lorry to destabilize Muluzi’s meeting with an aim of shooting at the former president,” said the source on strict condition of anonymity.

The plot is said to have been hatched with the blessings of President Mutharika who ordered it to be carried out while he is out of the country.

Mutharika left Tuesday for a Green Revolution Conference in Oslo, Norway.

“A sharp shooter has been tasked to shoot Muluzi,” said the source.

“Shoot to kill Muluzi is the highest order in the hands of the operation team going to Salima. There will be other live bullets shots to others just to create an atmosphere that the re was pandemonium when Muluzi is killed,” said a source very reliable whose has always been credible.

UDF deputy secretary general Hophmally Makande  has also confirmed having received a tip-off from police and “well wishers in government” on the plot.

“Police and our well wishers in government have indeed told us about the plot but let them carry the orders to kill us for merely political competition,” said Makande.

He said Muluzi has indicated that he will proceed with the meetings despite the security threats.

“Muluzi said he is proceeding to address meetings even if they would kill him as it has been planned,” said Makande.

Muluzi, allowed by the constitution to seek another term of office after serving Malawi as head of state from 1994 to 2004 and took a five year break was nominated by UDF at the April 24 convention as presidential candidate.

Other opposition parties have also endorsed him as their torch bearer.

If Bingu is a champion of democracy, why is planning to assasinate Muluzi by hiring the brutes.Bingu is not a true Lomwe we know.He is a fake Lomwe. There is no point for assasinating a fellow Malawian by the name of Muluzi for the sake of clinging to power through unlawful means.Alopwana nathyiana, muchenjere naye Bingu.Ndapita.

* trust nyasa, they have connections all over, this is a wake up call to UDF security personnell, brace for more tougher times ahead. UDF must recruit army and police officers who have been interdicted or forcibly retired. The party need a paramilitary wing of only 3,000 trained personnell to protect Muluzi the presidential and all parliamentary candidates. DPP knows that given same level playing field Bakili will win easily the presidential elections.

Malawi was once called peaceful state but now instead of focussing on developmental issues all we are thinking is assassination guns violence and all that.Malawi will turn into pakistan where people kill eachother mercilessly like BHUTO.

Electing Bingu on presidency was the biggest mistake malawi made even Tembo can be better than Bingu because he realised mistakes made that made it to be on opposition side.
Hence the saying goes better devil you know than unknown angel.

* knew it was really a matter of time before claims were being made in relation to the assassination of his former excellency. Truthfully all these assassination plots are a waste of valuable time for all well meaning Malawians. It really takes the notion that our politicians have of us quite far. My advise to all our leaders in parliament and everywhere: MALAWIANS are not as dumb as you might perceive. Please disist from these cockamamie games you seem to want to play.

well nothing new here. Is this true? * doubt if it is true. Why to kill Muluzi alone? Nyasatimes thinks Muluzi is the only challenger of Bingu, really? There are other political leaders who are queit now but also command a large following of supporters and these also pose as a threat to Bingu and why not being targetted? Do not make Muluzi as the main contender of Bingu you people of nyasatimes, you are the ones who are cheating this man greatly. These are hallucinations only, * doubt very much that Bingu can go so low that can plan to kill Muluzi when he already knows that Muluzi is dead and buried already in politics. * want to tell you that Bingu, does not care whether Muluzi stands or not, Bingu has already won the elections. Even if the elections can be held now, Bingu will scoop many votes, but * doubt about some of his ministers if they will sail through to the other side of the bridge. He will amass many votes but will have few MPs if primaries will not be conducted peacefully. therefore, let Muluzi go and address people in Dowa and Salima as long as he has got the permission for his meetings.

Very bad indeed for Bingu. But those are kicks of dying horse. Mr president, you entered govt through backdoor, you will leave it through the main door. It'* highly encouraging that despite all the threats, when the bigman (Muluzi) holds a meeting, the gathering that he attracts make Bingu'* stomach run. Come May 19 2009, Bingu against his master Bakili. Will he stand the heat? You are in for it.

Malawians believe in the power of their votes. There is need that we portray our country as loving life especially after disappearances of politically active members. We chose to use the barrot and what good is their in earnest to assasinate Muluzi. Who is he that he has to be eliminated in this day and age when we all believe we can use the barrot. Zinazi tiziganiza. You mean Mutharika is so power hungry up to the point of kill an opponent on barrot paper. May be information is a reversal of facts. Inu a Malawi let us be proud of our country and be responsible in our reporting. All this hype * hope can end by May 2008.

Why is it that President Mutharika fears Muluzi so much. Mutharika must understand that the laws of Malawi are supposed to be adhered to at all times because this country is a democracy where people have the right to assembly. It is not a personal fiefdom or estate that he can at will order the killing of a fellow human being who has a large following across the country. Stop harassing political opponents and try to turn Malawi into Zimbabwe.

Why is Nyasa Times always against President Bingu? What is it that is new that Bakili will bring to fore that he didn'* during his 10 year rule? Malawians are generally intelligent people and are there that can be President than to re-cycle the presidency. Give Bingu a chance or look else-where.

What is wrong with Malawians. One group at one time fabricated treason charges about overthrowing Bingu. Other quarters now seem to be fabricating other lies talking about killing Muluzi. This is not a good quid pro quo situation. We are just tainting the integrity and image of our political leaders. who in this century and in his right mind would think of political assassinations? This is *****.

* have said ***** because if Bingu and his cohort were to carry out an assassination of Muluzi, they would never use three vehicles full of policemen. If you have raead books about espionage or sabotage or the like, planners would consider using a one man gang or three men gang maximum. That is the only way you can keep quiet before and after the action is carried out. Who does not know in Malawithat If Bingu were to engineer the assassination of Muluzi, Malawi will be on fire and Bingu himself would never dare stay put in the country. We are fed up of this kind of mudslinging from political leaders and their cohorts just to gain political mileage. There are times * am even ashamed to discuss Malawian politics with some of my friends. * can not even encourage my friends to read articles about Malawi on the internet lest they stumble on tales that are written as though they are talking about the truth and nothing about the truth. It is as though we are still practicing primitive politics. Let us change and discuss real issues that benefit the whole country. Instead of uplifting the country, we are slowly and surely tearing it apart because of such hallucinations. * would like others to respect me as a person who has a culture that one would be proud of but of late just because of the tempo set in most of the articles, it is as though we have no culture to be proud of. opposition and Government, unite for the benefit of your people. No one should should consider oneself to be irreplaceable and dream that there are wolves around one all the time that are ready to jump and take a kill.
