Blantyre Synod embarks on school project
As part of a long standing covenant partnership, with the Presbyterian Church of Ireland (PCI), Blantyre Synod of the Church of Central Africa (CCAP), has launched a K50m child development project.
Launching the project on Wednesday at Ng'onga Primary School in Lirangwe, Blantyre, Blantyre Synod Deputy General Secretary, Andrew Maere, said besides boosting food security at household level, the two year project which aims at uplifting school pupils lives both at home and in their respective schools, will also focus on health and sanitation.
"We thought of coming up with this project on realization of numerous problems that school children in this area were experiencing on a day to day basis. This project will surely help to address some of those problems for the better and at the same time, will improve school performance," said Maere.
The Deputy General Secretary told the crowd that gathered to witness the launch of the project that as part of its implementation, the synod will renovate classroom blocks and improve school surroundings in order to create a conducive environment for learning.
"At community level, we would like to empower the local people, to grow enough food and rear animals so that children should have access to food," he said.
As part of the covenant partnership with PCI, Blantyre Synod has implemented several projects aimed at boosting food security and improving education standards.
