image Chimango: Speaker is not that type that disrespect a court order

Speaker of the National Assembly, Louis Chimango said he is an ethical man who respects the rule of law and down playing reports that he could be in contempt of court.

Chimango a lawyer by profession said a front page headline story of the Daily Times that he defied Attorney General was misplaced.

In a  statement, the Speaker said the paper’s headline was out of context when it was attributed to him that he disrespected advice given by Attorney General following a court order stopping Clerk of Parliament, Maltilda Katopola’s removal and continued to bar her from offices. Ansah confirmed advising Speaker to allow Katopola resume work.

Chimango who has been dragged to court by Katopola for contempt of court after reports that his office denied the clerk entry into her office at Chief Mbelwa building in the capital, Lilongwe said in vague statement said his professional relationship with Attorney General Jane Ansah dates back 35 years ago and “is based on mutual respect and confidence”.

The speaker maintained that he respect the rule of law apparently dismissing that he did not disrespect the court order.

“When the Attorney General is out of the country, she interacts with senior lawyers in her chambers. Through such interactions the public should know that the AG chambers are aware that the Speaker is not the type that disrespect a court order,” said Chimango statement.

Speaker added that it would be unethical and inappropriate for him to comment on the allegations attributed to Mrs. Katopola saves to add that mention should have also been made of the communication posting her on immediate leave then.

Katopola has been on row with the Parliamentary Service Commission since revelations that she flouted procurement procedures at the National Assembly.

She was found in wrong for using her company Monick Trends to supply services to her office contrary to set regulations of public procurement.

President Bingu wa Mutharika, who received recommendation from PSC as an appointing authority to axe her following the scam, pardoned the Clerk of Parliament.

as a malawian,Ihardly see no reason of taking somebody to court, in the first place who made Katopola into that office? who removed her? by answering these questions we will be able to grasp the victim to be summonned. Malawians should learn that our politics is only suitable for ignorants, people who are more educated like the Chimangos often fall prey of injustices. This should also be a warning to aspirants who are doing well at this time in various bussiness but want to add more wealth by joining the game so called polytricks, this will do more harm than good to your reputation than good.unless malawi changes polytricks to politics then our democracy will be good to be joined by well blended intellectuals. today Chimango should inwardly regret for the wrong choice that he made by leaving his good proffession and joining this dirt game which has costed his reputation and conduct. to katopola * would advise you to be silent for only afew months are remaining to rollover.so far you are getting your pecks then no need to worry. let the speaker breath another cool air and rest abit

What is wrong with our country'* leadership? Why are they protecting this "special lady"?. The fact that she created her own breifcase company to supply items to the institution which she heads administrative is not only mind bothering as country takes it , but is FRAUD which not only warrants ACB to investigate but also mandatory jail time. Wise up Malawi this lady must go now.

Matilda, the guys you play with in London can not only offer you a bonk or a deep screw but also a good job. If * were you, * would get a job overseas and forget smelling sweat at 10am in the morning or fighting with you father inlaw Chimango. When will you grow??? You could get around £36,000 p/a What are you waiting for??? Moreover, your reputation has been damaged due to you groovy habits. There is nothing more to lose here. A move to UK will be ok for you as of now. See you at church on Sunday and many thanks for taking care of the young girl from UK although the contract is finished now.

Bingu only proves to be double-faced and inconsistent leader, afraid of applying the same rules evenly, in the name of equality. Rather than sending Matilda to the slammers as he did with the other Minister, Bingu should give her a little lesson by sending her to Lilongwe City Council to clean up blocked sewers.
