Govt dismiss Uladi charges
Malawi government spokesperson, Patricia Kaliati has dismissed claims by Malavi Peoples Party (MPP) President Uladi Mussa that President Bingu wa Mutharika government was stealing strategies from the UDF alliance.
Mussa, former agriculture minister in Mutharika government told a news conference at Crossroads Hotel that Mutharika government was copying the strategies of other parties and later on claiming ownership.
The former vice president of Mutharika’s DPP cited the Ministry of Education where government introduced two ministerial positions of Higher Education and Basic Education, which he said, was a copy cat concept from the alliance.
“It's a thing which we already put on paper, but they are claiming ownership,” claimed Mussa.
He added, “So is the same with the newly formed Ministry of Housing and Urban Development which is also a thing that is in our strategies.” But government has rebutted MPP claims as “baseless”.
Information Minister, Kalitai who is government spokesperson told Malawi News Agency that Mussa’s charges were “wishful thinking”.
“We already did the components in the Ministry of Education like that of Higher Education and Basic Education before they even thought of coming up with an alliance,” Mana quoted Kaliati.
During the news conference, MPP unveiled its Central Executive Committee which comprised of Mussa as president and the announcement of Professor Margaret Mbilizi as his vice.
However, Mbilizi who is pursing further studies in the US has not committed herself to the MPP cause.George Charles Zimba is second vice president.
Former Justice Minister and founder of DPP, Paul Maulidi is MPP Secretary General deputised Mickson Nkhoma.
Mussa said their vision and aspirations for Malawi will be incorporated in the UDF-alliance manifesto to be launched by their joint UDF-alliance presidential candidate Dr Bakili Muluzi.
