Malawi’s Joy FM radio closed

image Muluzi: His Joy Radio shut down

Joy FM, the private radio station at the centre of a political wrangle with the state has been ordered to close down “with immediate effect” by Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), Nyasa Times has learnt.

The order signed by MACRA director general Allexion Chiwaya comes hours after the High Court lifted a court injunction obtained by Joy FM last month stopping the communications regulator from closing down the radio for allegedly being owned by politicians.

Joy FM lawyer Ralph Kasambara is set to appeal to the Supreme Court against Judge Joseph Manyungwa's judgement, where he is expected to contest that the substantive issues have not been infringed upon.

Manyungwa said in his ruling that Joy FM had failed to disclose all material facts relating to the case when the station applied for the injunction against the earlier closure.

Joy FM is owned by UDF Presidential Candidate Dr. Bakili Muluzi, his wife, Patricia Shanil, and Atupele Properties Limited.

President Bingu wa Mutharika recently wrote Muluzi an angry letter in which he warned of imminent arrest for what he said was Muluzi's campaign to discredit him in the international  community.

THE PROBLEM WITH JOY FM IS THAT IT IS VERY POLITICAL EVEN MORE THAN MBC RADIO 1.NEXT TIME * WILL NOT BE SURPRISED IF THE GOVT ASKS THE BRITISH GOVT TO BAN OR CLOSE NYASANET.Ukamalimbana ndi boma umagwa wekha.

We Malawians need to look beyond our noses. Suppose, Baba Tembo obtains his licence to run a private radio station and so does Bingu. Do you think Malawi will be governable. The fact that Muluzi owns a radio stations is the reason why he instructed his MPs not to allocate even a Tambala to MBC and TVM.
All we need the media committe of parliament to look at what they can to make TVM and MBC opposition friendly. Andale asakhalenso ndi radio station. Sitikufuna Rwanda kuno.

Legs Kalundi we do not subscribe to your derogatory and incendiary lies. Who told you Malawi has the highest number of injunctions in the world??? Learn to give sound arguments. MACRA is politically charged. Joy is a tool of firebrand. Dogs will bark at each way but at the end of the day, political squabbles are always solved with time- taking tolls with talents and innocent lives. You must know that we do not all kowtow to senseless dominions. Remember the case if The National Agenda Newspaper?

Legs Kalundi:

My fellow Malawian, is this worth celebrating ?
Lets weigh up facts first leading to this fiasco.
On Kasambara, are you not ashamed to see these unending politically motivated arrests whereby the state end up paying millions in compensation.
Is the state in the business of making instant millionaires?

Please, save Malawi from these shameful acts.

A Muluzi amaonjeza ma guy ndi Joy radio much as we dont condone MACRA behaviour. His problem is the unquenchable thirst for power. Retire and enjoy your benefits bwenzi zonsezi kulibe and most of us here we only see Bingu as a problem koma we forget Muluzi too. He is the one who is a bigger problem. SURELY if Muluzi left all to Bingu there wouldn'* be any political tensions in Malawi not so? Koma poti he thought he would continue ruling malawi behind Bingu but that didn'* work and naturally he would like to revenge. Ndi Mulungu who used Muluzi to put Bingu into power and Bingu shd appreciate that at the same time Muluzi shd leave the stage to Bingu panopa and play an advisory role. Zasiyana 1992 ndi panopa. That time we needed change from 1 party system and so Muluzi was the man and after that others have to do their part. Atcheya be proud man for being the first multiparty president and thats a greatest owner that shd tell you to rest.
Pple we always wrongly advise these former heads of states and this is what made Kamuzu Wamuyaya.

Tell these old guys their good side, to help them retire than cheating them oh bwana we can,* win without you, UDF will die if you retire,,,, this is what makes them believe these lies in the process you destroy them.

Just imagine Muluzi has backche problem and he will be forced to campaign again kuti adyeranu muzadyerere but he will be in pains at his bed room, please think of his health also he needs more rest physically, mentally and emotionally.

Amalawi tinatani kodi?

* wish Muluzi shd rest and relax at Ntaja with his family and leave the stage to younger generations.

The law is very clear mabwana. No politician shld own a media house. Muluzi owns Joy Radio, Joy TV. Shld govt just look on the other side when someone is clearly breaking the law?

It has been coming. We know even with the injunction in the Court of Appeal the end is so nigh for Joy Radio and TV. By the way how daft is Muluzi and advisers not to have read the law about Media ownership and being politicians? HIding behind some Co name was probably a smart idea. May be Muluzi wanted the glory of being the owner?

The type of material being broadcast on Joy has been abhorrent. Its so poisonous and instigatory. This is why someone said we do not want another Rwanda here, bcoz, by the same token every politician can abuse the airwaves if they had a chance to do so. Imagine the anarchy!

Mzara.

MACRA yachita bwino kutseka Joy radio, there was just too much political instigations and immoral propaganda by half baked journalists and announcers,A Malawi tiyeni tivomereze kuti nobody is greater than the law and the fact the the case was presided over by Joseph Manyungwa{a staunch UDF functionary}tells you how less substance the Kasambaras have,* think Ralph is using his brilliance in law on on a highway straight to stupidity and most of the time * question his level of sanity, kodi a Malawi, munthu uyu anakana kuthandiza mwana wobereka yekha,do you think he is sane enough to involve himself in national building?
