Mutharika meets Mugabe in Qatar- ZBC report

image Mutharika and Mugabe: Comrades-in-arms share notes in Qatar

Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika met his ally Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe on the sidelines of a UN aid conference in Qatar according to the report on Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC).

Details of the Mutharika and Mugabe meeting held on Sunday were not immediately available it is believed they exchanged notes on the political situation in the two countries as the two leaders work closely.

Recently, European Union countries were persuaded to suspend government-to-government aid to members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) because of their failure to help the desperate people of Zimbabwe.

A petition signed by thousands of Zimbabwean living in United Kingdom called for suspension of aid especially for Malawi.

"We do not see why the British taxpayer, should, for instance, give more than £60 million this year to Malawi, whose President struts around on a stolen farm [Bineth farm] in Zimbabwe and who has named a new highway after his hero Robert Mugabe," Said Rose Benton coordinator of the October 11 vigil which was held in London.

Glenys Kinnock, Co-President of the African, Caribbean and Pacific / EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly received the petition.

The petition to European Union governments read: “We record our dismay at the failure of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to help the desperate people of Zimbabwe at their time of trial.

“We urge the UK government and the European Union in general to suspend government-to-government aid to all 14 (now 15) SADC countries until they abide by their joint commitment to uphold human rights in the region.”

The petition suggests that the money should instead be used to feed the starving in Zimbabwe.

The Vigil condemns SADC for recognising Mugabe as President when SADC's own Mugabe consequently feels free to disregard a power-sharing deal signed last month despite the deepening humanitarian crisis.

The UN says that about half the population will need food aid by early next year.

The Vigil wants part of the money saved by their proposal to be used to finance refugee camps in South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Mozambique to which Zimbabweans can flee for their lives without fear of prompting more xenophobic violence.

The money would fund shelter, medicine and education no longer available in Zimbabwe.

Benton explained: "We're not of course, calling for a halt to humanitarian aid to the region ….food, medicine etc. What we are talking about is balance of payments support which often goes astray.”

ZBC also reported that Mugabe met Cote d’Ivoire president Laurent GbagboMugabe also met United Nations secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon amid growing desperation to resolve a looming humanitarian crisis in the southern African country.

Bwana Mutharika, hear this. Am not a politician neither do * have interest in politics but * like your development policies compared to your predecessor. There is only one thing that you really upset me with - your continued shameless support for the tyranny Robert Mugabe whom the whole world knows that he his Hitler, Stalin, Saddam like! What good can Mugabe offer you - a person who smiles plunging his country into an biting inflation of 231,000 000%? Mugabe is now one of the greatest dictator of this age and one wonders why you don'* see any problems associating with this devilish person? Bwana president, despite your economic prudence, you now force me to believe that you too is a dictator because you seem to be happy associating with evil people. Pls leave Mugabe alone. Your predecessor made such a similar mistake of castigating the Danish that Malawi is a sovereign state and telling the Danes to go while him enjoyed our tax payers money here. How much did we loose? God help you politicians * think you take us for granted!

Nyasa net, please stop dragging Malawi into the Zimbabwean situation. Zimbabweans have themselves to blame for giving Mugabe support so that he can keep on gripping to power. Please, leave Malawi alone! What effect can Malawi have on Zimbabwe if a strong country like South Africa has failed?

* think it is something to celebrate for that there are pple who are talking to Mugabe on several issues affecting Africa, particularly Zimbabwe. Do we Africans really think Mugabe shld be isolated as a solution to the problems in Zim? Do we know who Mugabe is?

The current problems in Zimbabwe are much better than the situation we had some 4 months ago, none of that cld have been attained by simply isolating Mugabe. * know there are great issues still to be overcome but thats why talking has to continue, not opposite.

Let'* not buy everything that some Western govts are saying on Zimbabwe. We have to weigh situations all the time. So, Bingu is once again on track. It does not mean that he always agrees with Mugabe, you know. Contact and dialogue have got to prevail at all times.

Is Muthalika a Zimbabwe guy as well as Malawian!

Let no troubles from other lands fall on my soil Malawi!!!
As Canadian-Malawian, * know the importance of dual citizenship which we did no institute in Malawi yet...and, to say the least, we have to do just that in the post modern era! In Canada and the the UK we do that-way...why? you may ask. The answer is, you do not let down your brothers and sisters where ever they tour in the globe.

Though some of us dislike Mutharika for what he does in Malawi, it is not appropriate to require him to disassociate himself from Mugabe. The Zimbabwean problem is a western construction which Africans including Mutharika should repudiate. The kind of relationship African leaders have, with the exception of western errand territory, Botswana and some opposition leaders across Africa, should help us appreciate the neo-colonial mentality the west tries to implement through its yea-sayers like Tsvangarai. The suffering of the people of Zimbabwe has come about with both the power hunger of Mugabe and the western grip on Tsvangarai. African leaders know this fact. Therefore, they like anyone else would rather associate openly with Mugabe the person who openly opposes western imperialism than to comouflage the question of the suffering of Zimbabweans orchestrated by the west for failing to honor the Lanchester House land reform agenda of 1979. * personally dislike Mutharika, but on this one, please cut him some slack.

That is the main REASON why Bingu went to Qatar.

He KNEW that its the only place he could meet Mugabe comfortably and discuss how to detaul with oppositions in their countries.

Britain and US try to disciplne Bingu. He only like you because of Aid but his main friend is Mugabe.

When Malawians were in trouble did we tell Britain to suspend aid to Zim?

So please DEAL WITH IT!

You Benton, if you are tired of cleaning toilets in UK, please just go back to your country Zimbabwe and change things there. You were there sitting phii while your country men tried to remove this Mugabe from office. Now you want our Bingu to remove him for you. wake up Benton, we dealt with Kamuzu here, where were you? You guys in Zimbabwe are not serious, you are now starting to push the blame to SADC, does SADC leaders live in Zimbabwe, Recently elders tried to hold a summit in your country, you were just watching your Mugabe refusing them in, what did you do? your police is full of cowdungs. Let me tell you guys, put the blame on yourself and your folks. Tell Morgan he is a coward, how can he abandon polls? that was a time Zimbabwe could break through, but look what your Mose did, abandoning polls, why? Oh no they won'* be free and fair, my friend here in Malawi we face challenges headon. ask Muluzi in his bid for open term. we allowed him to table that in parliament, what happened, it flopped. He went wild around the country selling the idea to villagers, he thought because of his money, he could **** them and some of Malawi'* currupt Mp'*. We allowed him to table it again in parliament, he was ashamed to an extent that he choose Bingu in frustration to run for presidency, did we call Zimbabwe to help us getting rid of Muluzi? Wake up Benton. The problem with you Zimbabweans is that you love your life so much, so you want others to die for you. Mugabe is just nothing. He is a dying monkey if you can ask me. Your police, Army are all untrustweathy, how could they kiil because of money? Your village men are brainless, you think land is greater than your freedom. You see what Mugabe did, he knew that you are brainless, gave you land to toil. You thought it was love without realising you were selling your freedom. Please pass this messege to Morgan: HE IS A COWARD, HE SHOULD BE A ZIMBABWEAN NOT BRITISH, HE SHOULD REPRESENT ZIMBABWE NOT BRITAIN, HE SHOULD SPEAK SHONA PROBLEMS NOT BRITISH. HE SHOULD STAND FOR ZIMBABWE NOT BRITAIN. HE IS MAN ENOUGH TO HELP HIS ZIMBABWEAN FOLKS CHASE THIS LUNATIC FROM OFFICE. HE SHOULD NOT ONLY WAIT OTHERS TO FIGHT FOR HIM. WE HAD ONE LUNATIC HERE BY THE NAME OF KAMLEPO KALUA, HE WAS ONLY ABLE TO TALK SENSE ON CHANNEL AFRICA. MAN, WE CALLED HIM HERE ONLY TO REALISE THAT THE GUY IS MAD, COWARD, BANKRUPT AND POWERHUNGRY. YOUR MORGAN IS JUST THE SAME AND MUGABE KNOWS IT. You Benton, go back to Zimbabwe and sort things out. Stop crying from afar, Stop accusing SADC for even Khofi Anan failed. Look here Benton, in the first place have you sat down to wonder why Mugabe some countries share a cup of tea with Mugabe? Do you remember Portugal summit in 2007?. They invited him even when Gordon Brown warned to boycot. Don'* blame SADC or Bingu in particular, blame yourselves. We had Young Democrats here, so notorious and merciless. we dealt with their leader here. Act the same

Most comments here are senseless and only a manifestation of immature brains. The report above says among others, the Secretary General of the revered United Nations also met Mugabe. What is your problem here? Why are you not barking at Mr. Ban Ki Moon? Rather the report says and * quote: 'AMID GROWING DESPERATION' to solve the Zimbabwe Crisis. Yet someone says Tcheya watch out! Why? * do not like this.

By the way do you know the Ngwazi Dr. Banda was a friend of the Apartheid South Africa? And do you know that it is the Apartheid South Africa that constructed the current seat of Government including the glamorous Kamuzu International Airport? Do you know that the Ngwazi supported Taiwan when most countries shunned it? In fact have you wondered how we became friends with a small Taiwan leaving mainland China? You people just hate Mutharika and you will vomit your anger at every given opportunity.

Rather, we should ask the reporter to tell us the details of their meeting. Was it to solve the crisis or to exasperate it? Then we can bark. Are you telling me if Midima Road was not named after Mugabe, there could be no turmoil in Zimbabwe now? Actually, we should be more concerned with DRC where people are butchering each other in day light as the whole world watches. Cameras have been assembled from all TV stations to show the world how people are dying there and not soldiers from all countries of the World. The whole world was just staring as more than 800,000 Tutsis (code named Coackroaches!!) were being murdered. What did United Nations do? What did USA, Britain, Russia, China and Germany do? What will Malawi achieve by isolating Mugabe when the United Nations still recognises Mugabe as president of Zimbabwe?

And Zimbabwe had second round elections boycotted by Tsangarai. The International Communtity faults the boycott because it did not meet procedure. In other words the whole boycott was illegal which means legally Tsangarai did not boycott but lost the second round. Tsangarai also is so inhuman. Millions are suffering in Zimbabwe today not necessarily because of Mugabe but because of Morgan on reason that Tsangarai wants to control the Ministry of Home Affairs. Why does Tsangarai insist on this? Does he have any heart for the suffering Zimbabweans? Can the Ministry of Home Affairs be more important than thousands today suffering from Cholera? Where is the spirit of sacrifice for the cause of the people? Where is the heart of a leader in Morgan Tsangarai?

Hey guys, do not just follow the world. Be pragmatic sometimes it helps. Mugabe is not a demon on his own, he has just been painted to look like a demon unfortunately the world is too blind to see the real demon here.

Well done Mutharika to speak one on one with Comrade Robert Mugabe.

* believe Bingu is aware of these scenarios that have taken place in Zimbabwe recently.

* believe that Bingu realises it is a matter of time that his 'farm' and monetory interests in Zim. become a nightmare dream!!

Chiwango Chenecho * totally agree with you. The whole United Nations, with its many countries is just watching, why Bingu? Marrying a Zimbabwean lady is not enough for Bingu to point his nose in Zimbabwean affairs. Guys, we reaaly have so many things to solve in Malawi. It only take one or two lunatics to make people suffer. Let me enlighten these desparate Zimbabweans. Your so called Morgan will not take you out of your self created predicaments. Find someone who will not boycot elections but faces Mugabe headon. Look here, ask Morgan why whe is prefering to get ministry of home affairs than freeing Zimbabwe. What is it that he wants from the ministry? Zimbabweans, be very carefull, this man is even more dengerous than Mugabe. Njira zophera mphaka ndi zambiri, provided you get hold of the mphaka. Borrow a leaf from Bingu/Muluzi movie. Bingu knew from the begining that he was'nt UDF, but the folks in UDF wanted him to run for presidency, he did his mathematics and find where to stab. Chiwango chenecho!!! You started your comment by trashing all other comments on this topic. You started with pomp and * thought you would give me something to read and think about. Going through your comment, am afraid you didnt impress me. To me you are just one of them 'Immature Brains' just to quote your words.
You are right to say that TV cameras have assembled in DRC to show the world how people are being killed in broad day light. But do we have these cameras in Zimbabwe to show the whole world what is going on there? Not at all!! * dont have to tell you the reasons you all know them.
You are trying to label Tsangirayi as a demon now and Mugabe as a saint. God forbid!!!! By boycotting the elections he did what any credible leader would have done. You go on to say Millions are suffering in zim now not because of Mugabe but Tsangirai. Aaaah!! Amangwetu Zimbabwe yake mukunena itiyo kodi? Yomweyi ndikuidziwa ineyi?
By insiting on Home Ministry Morgan is simply fighting for real freeedom for all Zimbabweans. People are living in fear now because of the Mugabe controled Police. Morgan knows that there will no freedom if Mugabe continue to control the Police. Munya (BBA III) had to ask Big Brother if his family was safe in Zimbabwe. He thought that may be his comments in the house would have been quoted out of context. It simply means that people are living in fear in Zimbabwe.

@nyamiti, your opinion on why Morgan is instisting this Home affairs ministry is lame, and if this is what Morgan is fighting for, then he is equally coward and mad. There is a saying which goes like this: TO KILL A SNAKE, CUT ITS HEAD, THE REST WILL SORT THEMSELVES. Mugabe is the head and if only Morgan brings his brains together, he can cut it, leaving those notorious stooges lifeless. How can Morgan do this? you may ask. Tell your Morgan not to love his life less but Zimbabweans most. He should stop crying to Britain like a baby. We had Kamuzu here, equally mad like Mugabe. Chakufwa came from abroad to challenge Kamuzu headon, remember? What Chakufwa did was to alert the world that he was comming to change Malawi, he did it. Chakufwa was not burking from South Africa. He said and * quote "NDIPITA KOMWEKO, MWAZI WANGA, INDE MWAZI WANGA UKAPEZERA ANTHU MTENDERE" Man this was a man full of people at heart. Not that he loved his life less, but loved Malawi more. Kunalitu kumenyedwa makufi ana amuna. What happened, kamuzu sucumbed to preassure and accepted Malawi to hold a referendum which did the last punch on MCP. Mind you, there were those policemen who were behind Kamuzu. we had the likes of Dr Death Tembo who vehemently opposed the same democracy they claim today to be wearing a democratic cloth. They could resist but man, Malawi inakwiya, wosayang'ana kuti awa ndi apongozi, apa pali mwana. Look in the same MDC, there is a breakup. A lot of childish comments have been advanced by contributors on this forum. Let me first fold my shirt and pump senses where need be. To begin with, * do not understand what is wrong with Bingu meeting Robert in Qatar. World leaders are gathered there and isolating one person would not be in the interest of reconciliation and advancement. It is also an an uncalled for action for any sensible Zimbabwean group to call for sanction on SADC countries just because of the stalemate in Zimbabwe. There is little that those countries can do unless they sealed off all communication routes to that country. This would however lead to the poor people dying enmasse before the entire world would blame these sorrounding countries as being barbaric and not caring for the people. In short Zimbabweans have to lead in finding the solution.

Secondly, some derogatory statements have been made about the Zimbabwean masses being cowards for not ousting Mugabe from power. You just have to symphasize with these suffering people. It is not that they enjoy living under those conditions. They have done all they could but Robert has managed to thwart them all as he clings to power just like how our Kamuzu Banda clung to power for 30 years before sense prevailed upon him that he could no longer sacrifice the social and economic well being of the country. That is how he called for a referendum and of course the ensuing general elections that ended in a red ticket being given to him. Banda succumbed to those results just because earlier on the mighty Malawi army had crashed the MYP that had previously guaranteed Banda'* power base. Even the ruthless red shirted youth league who blindly supported Banda and would mobilize people at no pay could not say anything. Remember that Robert Mugabe still controls the army and his secret police such that he can do whatever he wants with impunity. Seeing how some comments above have been written, one would tell that the contributors are still youthful and therefore just do not know what it meant living under the Lion of Malawi'* rule. The next leader after Banda, Muluzi, also wanted to extend his rule for another term and possibly another more terms thereafter. Do you think that would have been different from how Robert is running Zimbabwe now? God was on Malawi'* side seeing that Muluzi failed to reach the required two thirds by less than 1 percentage point. By the way, have you not seen horrific pictures of Zimbabweans who have been singled out and torchered or even killed? This is similar to what Malawians experienced. We should pray that it is time Mugabe got tired of running according to his whims and surrender his authority to the most high. It is unfortunate that people like Chiwango Chenecho whatever that mean and Mada portraying Mugabe as an angel. He must be kin to them and no wander they can not see anything bad with Mugabe.

Coming to Morgan'* insistence on controlling the Home affairs ministry, there is nothing wrong with that. It is strategic. If he controls that ministry, it would give him chance to reign in on police brutality and thereby guaranteeing some peace and freedom to all Zimbabweans alike. If he and his party cohorts could only control minor ministries, what would prevent Mugabe from ordering an arrest of all opposition ministers including the prime minister if he feels like. Let us be mature when making comments please. Zikomo kwa basi.
