Malawi Army soldier arrested for robbery

Mzuzu Police on Saturday apprehended a Malawi Defence Force soldier for house burglary and theft in the city.

According to Mzuzu Police Spokesperson Edward Longwe, the suspect is 28-year-old Kondwani Kanyika of Moyale Barracks in Mzuzu.

“Kanyika was indeed arrested last Friday after he broke into a house and stole a number of items which included mattresses and bed covers totalling about K10 000,” he said.

The soldier, instead of ensuring that there is peace at all times, entered into the house through the window and owners, who were by then chatting at the living room, got surprised with the strange sound in the bedroom.

“When they entered the bedroom they were surprised that the items were missing and immediately launched a hunt and found Kanyika with them,” he said.

The soldier, who hails from Kanyika Village, T/A Wasambo in Karonga District has since been referred to the Barracks officials for their disciplinary action.

Oh Yah, Soldier Kanyika mpakana kuba matress, hehe masoja a pa Malawi amenewo hehedee, * heard nyasa times reporting of Bingu ushering money to Moyale Barracks a week or two, so where is the money if that was true, maybe this one was just a part time job for Kanyika. Why police sent a bad boy back to Barracks for a disciplinary action? Please send him to the war toned region of DRC to face the music as his punishment. He deserve a heavy penalty for putting Malawi Defence Force into disrepute.

these guys are so wicked talk of the police, the soldiers all are a shame to our community. people are made to bowdown to them for nothing. ask the community we are being oppressed now and then, this is just a single and simple example they have done many bad things only that silence has prevailed, people are afraid to report because they donot know where to report to. pliz the concerned managements should set a method of reporting for the afflicted to follow without them suffering any harm. Iam one of the victims, one policeman had hired thugs to rob my house, when * went to report the issue * found him on duty at the station. the issue was not investigated because he was the concerned party in the issue. up to now the police havent come to see how the thugs broke my house. there is alot of bribery in our security forces.discipline these guys or suck them all to maintain peace in our land

Well, beg to differ. While do not condone robbery, this is a sign of low salaries.
Will not be surprised next time a soldier ends up at the palace doorstep,AK47 in armpit for more money.

Inu a Takondwa Tawonana simukundimva. what * am trying to say is inde waba munthuyo koma this space was wasted with such a story that even on radio main news in cannot get an air time koma mwina pa zam'maboma. Many better things happened in Malawi on that day that could have deserved this main page space. A story like that finding its way on "main page" of nyasatimes? hehe! wonanani nduna zinzanu za dailytimes or nation. We live with thieves everyday and this is not the only soldier caught in this mess by the way. Many worse robberies have happened b4 him. Look at the cops shooting pple and all. * am not condoning the act.
