Dorothy Ngoma wins international award
Barely two weeks after Malawi Library Services Director won a global award, another Malawian has been recognized for her outstanding achievements in the nursing field.
National Organization of Nurses in Malawi Executive Director and an OXFAM Ambassador Dorothy Ngoma has been honoured by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) of the United Kingdom (UK) for her achievements in the nursing, education and social development fields.
Ngoma, who traveled to the UK last week to receive her award, is the first African to win the annual award from the college.
"I am so delighted, this is wonderful news not only to me but also to my organization and all nurses in Malawi," she said in an interview.
Ngo'ma achievement compelled the RCN President Maura Buchanan to come to Malawi with three nurses to do charitable work for 16 days before they return to the UK.
The three are expected to commence the charitable work on Friday (May 9) and will finish on May 21.
During their stay, the nurses work at Zomba Central Hospital and then travel to Likoma and Mzimba to visit support groups.
For winning the award, the Scottish government through RCN gave Ngo'ma 80 000 US$, about K11.2 million, for various nursing activities in the country.
