Muluzi to be arrested

Malawi's former Head of State, Dr. Bakili Muluzi currently in the United Kingdom on a private visit is earmarked for arrest immediately on his arrival on treason charges, Nyasa Times has learnt.

A government source confided to the Nyasa Times that Muluzi's name was among top United Democratic Front (UDF) big wigs arrested this morning.

"If Muluzi was in the country, he would have been arrested on Monday night. They wanted to pick him at night for fear that arresting him during the day, his supporters would cause civil unrest and thereby blocking his arrest," said the source, adding that all possible arrangements have been formalised for his arrest.

Last week, government in what the Police described as routine, changed Muluzi's security and transferred some to the North.

Meanwhile, following the arrest of the UDF Senior officials, Kennedy  Makwangwala, John Chikakwiya and the former Police Chief, Joseph Aironi, former  Army Commander, Joseph Chimbayo and seven army brigadiers, Mutharika has called for an emergency cabinet meeting to formulate the way-forward at the New State House.

At a rally in Nkhatabay on Sunday, Mutharika alleged that his predecessor was planning to topple him.

The President further alleged that he had full information that the former president had been giving out money to some individuals in the country who would be working with him to carry out his plans.

This is the climax of it all and whatever unfolds in the next days begins from today and believe me, there is a prediction of more surprises as well. There is excessive paranoid and fear of the unknown and soon, we will all be arrested and the country will only remain with DPP supporters. BUT what they should remember is that every government has its lifespan and soon or later it will collapse and others will take over. Everything is now complicated and no end insight of this political turmoil. Muluzi and the whole opposition will now get our sympathy. within 4 years, two treason charges, is malawi such a lawless country? someone somewhere is not doing his work right.Find him and either fire him or make him productive as he used to be. The current situation is unstable. The President appears desperate. On such a grave issue as talks of an COUP, a rally in Khata Bay(or anywhere for that matter) would not be the best place for it. Very irresponsible, Mr. President.
And who exactly is Kaliati? "We Know Who They Are, Where They Live" how is a LEADER tolerating his Ministers to make threats on the lives of citizens?

Its sad Malawians will never learn not to surrender power to a coward. The first thing he will claim * am not a coward, at first it was the Lion from Kasungu, now the Tiger.
The secondf thing is to use power to silence critics using state maCHINERY. tO ME THERE IS NOTHING STRANGE, HISTORY IS JUST REPEATING ITSELF. A LOT IS YET TO COME. aTIKANDA tonse ndi kambuku ameneyu anena yekha ku Mulanje. "Never ever give power to a coward again.HAPPY KAMUZU DAY.
