Rev Kaleso tipped to be Tembo's MCP running mate
Rev. Kaleso hails from Mulanje district in the Lomwe belt of the southern region.
"There are two politicians from the southern region within the party ranks who have been shortlisted for position of running mate," said a MCP source from Lilongwe.
"But Rev Kaleso is highly favoured to carry the day," he noted.
MCP party spokesman Raspicious Dzanjalimodzi could not be reached for comment.
Kaleso, a former Deputy Speaker of Parliament, joined MCP after an earlier bad spell with politics.
He was one of the fighters for multi-party democracy in Malawi. After the advent of multi-partyism, he became vice president of Aford. Later, he joined the UDF. Thereafter, went to NDA and, more latterly, the DPP before settling for the MCP.
Recently, Tembo held a number of mass rallies in the southern region where the party has little support, as it is largely a central region dominated party.
In the last election, it was alleged that it was Tembo who won the presidency, but that Bingu Mutharika rigged the vote.
Tembo had Peter Chiona as his running mate in that election.
Chiona is now a member of the ruling DPP.
