Appeal for support to repatriate remains of Malawian from Scotland
A Malawian group in the United Kingdom is appealing for donations to help repatriate the remains of Malawian Evelyn Kabuluzi (pictured)who died in Glasgow, Scotland on 18th June 2009.
Burial is expected to take place in Blantyre, Malawi.
According to the task group member, Malawi Ngwira, the remains of late Kabuluzi are expected to be repatriated to Blantyre early next week.
“However, we will know the actual date by Friday (3 July). The funeral director expects to complete all the paperwork including flight bookings by then,” explained Ngwira.
“The efforts to secure the necessary money and identify a funeral director have been far reaching. After extensive searches we managed to find an undertaker who we consider offers value for money. Also the drive to raise the necessary funds now looks quite promising,” said Ngwira in a statement.
He explained the cost of preparing the remains, flight costs, undertaker’s fees and handling charges is at £2,800.
“As at close of business yesterday (Tuesday 17:00) money raised stood at £2,358. Of this amount, £500 is pledged funds. Outstanding balance — £442. The undertaker will still go ahead to repatriate the remains on the proviso that the remaining money (£442) will be paid later,” pointed out Ngwira.
He said donations are therefore still needed.
Ngwira gave account details where people can lodge y contributions as follows: Name of Account Holder: Joshua Chisasa, Account Number: 00026243, Sort Code: 11-79-35, Bank: Halifax Bank of Scotland.
The statement said in order to give people the opportunity to pay their last respects, arrangements have been made to view the body followed by a religious service. Both events will take place consecutively this Friday (3 July) from 4 pm at the funeral home of Alex Black funeral directors in Drumchapel, Glasgow.
The address is: Alex Black Funeral Care, 7 Peel Glen, Glasgow, G15 7XN
The statement said any enquiries regarding the arrangements taking place should be directed to the Chairman of Association of Malawians in Scotland, Dr Kadzuwa on his mobile 07950367023 or email: kadzuwa@sky.com

My only comment is related to exposing the bank details as Mr Chisasa has humbly done. I would rather you put your phone and people ask for the details from you and others. I may Sound unreasonable but dont be surprised when your account is used for Direct debits which you will have no clue about. This has happened to some. much as help is being sought in perhaps a seemingly efficient way but PLEASE GUARD YOUR BANK DETAILS with Jelousy.
Maybe its a deposit account
First, may the deceased family trust in God that he will look to their needs using human agency in one form or another or not even human but supernatural agencies to get their needs met. Trust in God and even when things happen like this you can have that hope in Jesus. To all tonse tidzafa koma tiyeni tikonzekere so that when Jesus comes again we could meet our beloved departed ones.
I also tend to agree with some of contributions above in that kuthandizana ndikwabwino and grows community spirit. This can however go further by having community funds to help in times of both zovuta ndi mtendere. I strongly feel a fund could be a way forward.
The second point I want to raise is that it would be good to bury each other where ever one has passed away. When Jesus comes you and I shall result and still meet our beloved even if we are buried under the ocean bed. Burial place has pros and cons.
I will cite an example, I lost an aunt in South Africa (2002) after we had taken her to there for chemotherapy. When she passed away, those of us who were financially capable talked it over whether to have her buried there or brought to malawi for burial. We saw that it was costly to transport body and an accompaniment to malawi and have burial in malawi so we had her buried in South Africa and had a memorial service in malawi the same day they were having burial. It was far much cost effective. During the discussions we found out that those who wanted her body to be brought to malawi unconditionally didn’t even want to help in costs or were not capable of paying for such.
