Bingu calls emergency cabinet meeting
Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika on Wednesday night called an emergency Cabinet meeting at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre.
Cabinet sources said the meeting at Sanjika was arranged to discuss how the government should tackle the backlash over controversial quota system which has come mainly from the northern region.
President Mutharika threw his weight behind the university selection system but voices from the northe have condemned the re-introduction of the “discriminatory” system.
Livingstonia Synod of the CCAP in the north, Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (Mzuzu Diocese), Forum for new Direction (Fond) and ruling DPP’s director of political affairs, Harry Mkandawire have all criticised the system.
Mutharika knows he faces growing opposition over the quota system especially from northenors.

In simple terms there should be Quota system on everything in Malawi osati university selection yokha. I concur with that friend who said even the Football and Netball national selections should be based on the quota system tione ngati mupite ku Nations Cup chaka cha Mawa. These other people are simply not hard workers. Are we Malawians sure to say you will leave someone with 10 points and opt for a dull mind with 30 points for the sake of quota system. Even Mr President Himself didnt go to the university with 44 points or did you Mr First citizern????
Kumaganiza a Malawi. Northerners are also Malawians. Or May be you want people to form a republic in the North kuti mwina Nkhanizi ZITHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eeetu ee zithe choncho, for your own republic. We are sick and tired of you people
I dont think this is charity the real happy girl she is so jacked up to come up with this comment is it you? please dont try to destroy the cariculum of C.T.H.G
I think it is a good idea for my fellow Malawians to stop kutukwana pa nyasanetpa chifukwa zikungotichosera ulemu as Malawians who believes in unity. I wonder many people are claiming to have PHDs and some Masters degrees but what they are writing here do not even supporting their status. Come on Malawians we know some of you are well educated. This issue needs points on the table why it is bad or good in all four corners of Malawi. And i know Mr president has sensed something that is why he has called for an urgent meeting. Lets pray for them while discussing this issue they should all have sober minds for the unity of our country.A Malawi chonde we not out here to be peace loving people ndiye tiziwerenga zimenezi zotukwanazi. Ndipo ngati kungakhale ko theka chonde azathu olemba mapepala any comment with mawu onyoza i think it is not worthy to be published because i believe freedom of speech does not mean kutukwana. God bless mother Malawi. I love my country.
Mwanena bwino Abusa BUT kupempherako tikanapemphera kuti mtsogoleri wathuyi BINGU asakondele akwawo (LOMWE BELT) ndikuti asadana ndi a KUMPOTO on issues not of their making. Crisis meetings are not best meetings. He has deliberately created animosity amoungst people of Malawi and this will remain in peoples minds for a very long time way after you and me are dead. Whatever the out come anthu adana basi. They will be suspecious of each other
Ambuye akudalitseni ABUSA
I totally agree with you Sylvester, as Malawians we have an inescapable obligations of promoting peace and unity and building our beloved nation in all sectors. We should entirely avoid languages that are divisive and a thorn for development in their nature. Malawians must be patriotic in promoting the principle of oneness and universal concepts of love. Malawi is one country; we are all Malawians; we are one people. Regions and all kind of political divisions are just the influence opinionated dogma.
quota system should really be intoduced in all the corners of this nation. starting from the selection of cabinet ministers, sports competitors, and other major corners.
bingu has lost direction. such things must happen for the course of history to be twisted. too much adoration and reverence destroyed some of the world’s greatest leaders. bingu may not know, but there is no greater authority other than the citizenry. mbeki might not be far from bingu.
Bingu has dug his own grave by introducing the quota system, by being a patron wa alomwe tribe and commenting on peter mutharika, we malawians have problems of over praising someone, see now Bingu is turning to a dictator, Bingu must know that there was once a mighty party called UDF and now is dead, this thing called mulakho wa alomwe wil be in existence til Dpp is out, Bingu anayamba bwino but now he has lost direction, and DPP come 2014 will lose miserably. we just wait and see, these decorations he is getting from abroad we dont need them either do we benefit, u see ppl who helped him to survive the last 5 years eg ken lipenga, phoya, musa Harry onse anawataya and piked anthu osaziwika bwino. Umunthu mulibe ammeneyu. ine ndinaonela pomutaya bakili ndikuyambisa DPp. a malawi becaful ndi munthu wakhaza uyu
BINGU, GO AHEAD WITH QUOTA SYSTEM PLEASE! DON’T LISTEN TO THESE SANE PPLE FROM THE NORTH. WE HAVE THREE REGIONS HERE BUT WHY PPLE FROM THE NOTHERN REGION ONLY CRYING? IS QUOTA SYSTEM SAYING NORTHERNORS SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED? NOW I BELIEVING THAT MOST PPLE FROM THE NORTH ARE SELFISH THAT’S WHY LATE CHIHANA FAILED TO RULE THIS COUNTRY. AKAKHALA A HURRY MKANDAWIRE IS A FAILED POLITICIAN WITH BAD IMAGES LIKE PULUDZU TEMBO PPLE IN MZUZU DENIED ALMOST TWICE AND HE TRIED HIS LUCKY AT HIS VILLAGE UNDER THE MOST POPULAR PARTY DDP AND FAILED TO A YOUNG MAN BILLY KAUNDA AND HE JUST WANT TO REVENGE BECOZ MUTHALIKA APPOINTED HIS ENEMY NO: 1 AS DEPUTY MINISTER, DON’T FORGET THAT THIS MAN WANTED TO COMMIT SUICIDE AFTER MAY 19 ELECTIONS.
IF POSSIBLE MR PRESIDENT JUST CALL FOR REFRENDUM OR PARLIAMENT SHOULD MEET FOR DEBATE ON THIS QUOTA SO THAT YOU SHOULD FOLLOW WHAT MAJORITY IS SAYING.
Time for Orientation for Northeners.
1.From central region
-Tembo in the regime of Dr Banda influenced the qoata system
-victims were northeners.
2. From southern region-
Today Mlakho and Bingu are implementing the same system
-victims Northeners
3.I am a northerner ,the next thing I will do is to set the university office and its branches to fire to level the ground floor.(TIME BOMB)
Quota system is a good thing besides it only gurantees 10 places from each district for high performing students and then the rest of the places on merit. Now seriously what is wrong with that? Funny you want fair distribution of wealth but not education. Learn to think of malawi first before any regions or tribes. We are in a democracy and in democracy majority rules. Nothing personal just business.
So if the majority says let’s eat fire you will eat fire? You Imbecile without individual thought!!!!
People must understand the issue with a sober mind. “kanyama kotchedwa kota” is an issue for every malawian . Whether it is a good idea or not , to me for the sake of malawi, lets share the cake equally zokondera zisakhalepo apa. Define merit and also be knowledgeable about university requirements. It is not going to benefit failures but the people in each district. In the end equality in developmental places can be solved . Sorry for those mumakonderedwa mwalephera.
Bambo a Kota: Iwe mwanawanga Kota kodi unakhalilanji osalimbikila sukulu, taona ukuzusa mapili pachigwa. Ukadalimbikila sukulu ngati nzako uja bwenzi usakuvutita ndi izi. Chonde yesesa kulimbikila sukuluyi ngati anzako. Vuto iwe si umbulu koma zikhululupiliro? ndizofuna zako nzolakwika.
Iwe mwana wane wona sono, kutemwa sukulu kwaku kwanangavinthu muchalo muno, uwengi mukata ku sukulu nga banyako bene Kota mphanyi vyose ivi kulije. Chonde nkhukuweya pala ukukhumba chalu ichi kuti chiwe makola wambe ukata nga KOTA
This is another nonsense statement trying to divide the people of malawi.Who told you that you do well in class more than others, ulichindere nadi . What have you done in terms of development to show the success of your education?
Fellow citizens, it is uncomfortable to observe that this small piece of land is being torn apart by selfishness, lack of responsibility and pure greed. We as a nation need to sort our matters in a mature manner, considering the fact that valuable time is wasted chocking each other at the vital moment when development of this impoverished land is a priority.
Regionalism and discrimination was introduced by colonialists; the British. This unfortunate concept is what causes terrorism in Northern Ireland, and the appalling marginalisation of the Scots by the British government. We do not need a copycat of British experiments, we can do better. They cited dividing the country for administration purposes, unfortunately this division was merely on tribal basis. We are having to contain ridiculous situations which could not have happened in a wholesome country. Sad, that we have failed to notice this divide and continue along the path of self destruction.
The solution is simple; Malawi is a very small country which requires no unnecessary regional divisions. What was perceived crucial in 1905 is definitely not so important in 2009, meaning; it is easy to control the whole country as one region now. Lets get rid of these regions, so we all can be proud of our country and help to develop the whole land irrespective of our tribal origins.
1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 4 kaya ndi 16 zilibe ntchito. Tsoka kwa iye amene akuhopera UNIMA or MZUNI. Go to MCA. Mwandikwana amphawi nonse!!!
Mapwiya, they do not offer degrees in engineering, or computer science, or architecture, or agriforestry, or pharmacy, of bachelor of laws, or theology at MCA. You obviously have no clue what you are talking about. Don’t encourage people to become Kamikaze accountants, who want to be chartered accountants with no accounting base. That’s exactly why thousands of Malawians at Kiplan, formerly Emile Woolf have been studying ACCA for 9 years plus, failing each and every paper. They think they will become bosses once they get deported to Malawi chifuka anaphunzira ku UK? Mbuzi.
