President Mutharika: One Malawi, one nation

President Bingu wa Mutharika has said the northern region of Malawi deserves an equal share of national development.

Mutharika was speaking in Mzuzu city when he hosted a party celebrating his landslide victory in the May 19 elections.

The President who also enjoyed massive support in the north said the region will be given equal attention with the south and the centre on has government’s agenda of development.

He also called for unity amongst Malawians regardless of the region they come from

Mutharika said the north can no longer be isolated when sharing the national cake.

“If you go outside the country you will not be required to produce a passport from north. You will be required to produce a Malawian passport,” said Mutharika.

“I am saying this from the bottom of my heart let us work together. I have many friends in the north. There many people from north who have married from south. We have intermarried. There are many people from the north here who live permanently and will die in the south,” said Mutharika.

The President has been visiting the north on his nationwide whistle-stop tour to thank the electorate in for voting him back in power and giving his DPP a decisive majority in parliament.

On Thursday,  addressing crowds at Bolero, the headquarters of Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe in Rumphi West Constituency, President Mutharika  called for civilized politics and  urged people to focus on national development other than political bickering.

He said there is no need for his supporters to be composing songs to ridicule or castigate opposition leaders John Tembo and former president Dr Bakili Muluzi saying the two are “politically finished”.

“They ganged up against me and I said ndidzawanyenyanyenya [I will destroy them] on May 19 and I did just that,” he said.

Love your Neighbour as you love Yourself.
May God Richly Bless Our Leaders:So that There is no politics of Hate and Division.Because of different Language or Region or Culture.Wake up Malawi this is time to rise above these petty tribal Things,Let us Build our Nation.Oh How I love Mother Malawi. .

  2. Kanonono says:

You’re very true Braza Mwenso, let Malawi learn from her neighbours. Tanzania for example has 124 tribes but tribalism is a sin. People concentrate at building their nation. They are united as they strongly believe in the slogan that, ‘United we stand, divided we fall’. A racist will always find a bone to pick with anyone who comes in his/her way. Imagine, what will be the next step for a racist to take if he finalises the duty of segregating all southerners in the North? It goes without saying that he/she will start segregating fellow northerners on tribalism grounds. In this case, therefore, Tumbuka’s will be segregating their Tonga neighbours. Having succeeded to segregate the Tonga’s Tumbuka’s will start segregating themselves on ground of originality. In this way therefore, the people of Usisya will be put aside. The segregation exercise will go on and on up to the family level and the last one will be to segregate a family member on grounds of motherhood and since our grandparents were polygamists, you can guess where the next step will be. What kind of a nation shall it be?

We had had enough of these politics. My fellow Malawians i urge everybody to move on,because all this political bickering will take us nowhere.Whether who and who did this and that, we are not going TO rewind back those miserable years back instead we will keep on getting tortured mentally and finally lose our track.this is time to plan for our new Malawi. We need to have vision for our kids so that they FIND Malawi better place to live than making these noises. We interviewed this people on 19 may and Bingu passed the interviews. Now what remains is to work with Bingu.Development is every malawian responsibility.Lets be proud our country. Those people who tried to sow seeds of tribalism reaped what they sowed.Malawians said that we are not taking this.Time for taking Malawians for granted is the talk of the past.People are looking for somebody who is going to better their lives than a motormouth who talks nonsense and waste tax payers money for nothing. We need people who are qaulified for this top jobs, who can deliver.KOMA UMPHAWI UMENEWU SUMATICHITITSA MANYAZI??? NDIYETU TONSE TIYE TILIMBIKIRE NDIPO ZINTHU ZISASINTHA KWABASI.aBINGU PAOKHA SANGASINTHE ZINTHU,KOMA WE NEED EVERYBODY FROM WENYA CHITIPA TO MARKA NSANJE APHUNZILE MTIMA WOLIMBIKIRA NDIPO MALAWI LIZAKHALA DZIKO LONYADITSA.mAIKO ONSE OYANDIKANA NAWO AZAFUNA KUKHALA KU MALAWI.

  5. Ophiri says:

I am shocked that after 40 years we are still depating whether the the north is the dead north. The north is actually quite diverse, perhaps more so than the central region, so it is a misnomer to lump the region as one. Anthuni, take a closer look and understand your fellow countrymen better

  6. Ajapi says:

I am a staunch supporter of Bingu and yet i am a northerner. My support is based on the fact that Bingu is educated and he can develop the country further. Some people are so jealous such that they do not make sense in any argument.
