I would like to agree with what Moses has said that this was a six year emergency plan. It started in 2004 and will phase out in 2010. Development Partners pumped in funding to train the health workers. Its not that government budget has not been funded.

Ngoma as an activist she should have known about this arrangement and the decision made by government than giving false hopes. Government will only come up with a decision when the final evaluation report will be out i.e. maybe 2010 or 2011.

What we should all know is that before 2004 students were paying for their training.

The decision to stop funding cham is a policy decision. In the health sector we had what we called thee emergency human resource plan which was meant to last for 6 years now the time for that has elapsed.
The cham facilities are unrealistic its more expensive to train nurses with them than with the unima and yet moh does not support unima train doctors and nurses

Hibernian Boy, what you are doing to is like trying to explain that the earth revolves around the sun to a stone age man. These ppl cant understand the delicate balance between professionalism and politics when you are at the top but nice try though.
Now talking about Dorothy Ng'oma as person, I think she is a self centred gluton who has overstayed her welcome as the nurses to-dog in the country!

Malawi has a great shortage of nurse midwifes, this is a wrong decision that must be challenged.

Why attack Dorothy Ng'oma, it is not her to blame for the cuts in this budget.

She was correct to praise Bingu in that over the past year there had been noticable improvements in Malawian health care, particularly under the previous health minister. But when something is wrong she should also speak out.

Of course she must be political. She leads the nurses trade union and professional body and has to engage in the political process.

The decision to cut funding to Cham schools is a politcal decision and needs to be challenged at a political level.
