Cyclist Kaiya arrested for robbery
One of Malawi’s known cyclist, JonathaKaiya was recently apprehended by police for allegedly robbing a Lilongwe based woman.
Kaiya, 25 year is a on of Rev Fletcher Kaiya who is general secretary of the Baptist Convention of Malawi and is one of the respected faith leaders in Malawi.
He is reported to have given picked in his car, Jane Midian in the early hours of August 25 at Area 18 bus stage when the woman was going to work.
“Yes it is true that he robbed me but I can’t say much because the case is in court and investigations are underway,” Midian said in a telephone interview.
During the first court hearing, state prosecutor said Kaiya had threatened Midian and in the process snatched her handbag which had a mobile phone and its speakers, an ATM cash card, driver’s license and money.
Kaiyi who was arrested on 31 August is to answer charges of robbery and intimidation.
He was on remand at Maula prison when the court failed to hear the case due to inadequate time on 2nd September.
According to sources, Jonathan Kaiya was at the time of arrest driving members of his father’s congregation who are in the country to sink boreholes in several parts of the country.
It is believed that Kaiya used the church vehicle in committing the crime.
Kaiya is currently on bail.

Criminals are becoming sophisticated with each passing day. Its a shame that we are no longer feeling secure. here is an innocent lady given a lift and later on the benevolent guy tuens into a monster. everyday we here of daring crimes: robbers attacking banks in broad daylight; attacking a police station: cars being robbed at gunpoint.Its too much. now we have disgraced sons of Men of God. Chinomba was also a son to priest. Nyambi is out of words. Its shocking that the afro haired minister, has not issued any statement to assure us our safety. nanunso a Mukhito before you clean up the currupt police system, deal with ticking time bomb that we are sitting on. this country is no longer safe and Bingus first 100+ days are being spoiled.

Goerge is not Rev. Kaiya. George is 25 and therefore a man in his own right. By mentioning Rev. F. Kaiya in the manner that he has been mentioned shows that there are veiled motives here. You can tell from the way the article has been written, the mistakes and all that shows that there is something sinister going on here. I really don’t think that the writer is a poor writer; there was a battle with conscience in writing this article.
Always there are two sides to every story; issues like these are better reported with a balanced view. Whoever wrote this article corroborated with the alleged victim.
