EU petitioned to suspend aid to Malawi over bankrolling Mugabe
Malawi has been highlighted in a petition to the EU calling for punitive action against SADC countries over Zimbabwe affairs.
The Zimbabwe Vigil presented the petition to the EU’s Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, Karel De Gucht in Brussels this week.
The petition reads: “A Petition to European Union Governments: We record our dismay at the failure of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to help the desperate people of Zimbabwe at their time of trial.
“We urge the UK government and the European Union in general to suspend government to government aid to all 14 SADC countries until they abide by their joint commitment to uphold human rights in the region. We suggest that the money should instead be used to feed the starving in Zimbabwe”.
The petition was handed over by Geoffrey Van Orden, MEP for the East of England, who received it at a ceremony last month to mark the Vigil’s seventh anniversary.
“Our argument is that SADC countries have been derelict in their duty to Zimbabwe. Why should countries which support Mugabe’s tyranny receive money from EU taxpayers?
“Why, for instance, should Malawi get £70 million in balance of payments support this year from the UK alone when its people face starvation because of a reckless loan to Mugabe, which predictably has not been repaid? “ reads the petition.
SADC has ordered urgent talks in Zimbabwe to resolve differences over the Global Political Agreement. But Mugabe has shown what he thinks of this by flying off to Rome with a retinue of 60 locusts to tell the UN World Food Summit how badly Zimbabwe has been treated.
The loan Malawi government gave Zimbabwe has also be blamed to have bee n one major cause of fore shortage in Malawi, the country which is currently experiencing fuel shortage, power blackout on daily basis and water scarcity.

Did Malawi government give the loan to Mugabe personally or to Zimbabwe government? What was the loan meant for? Was it given to the targeted? Was is it merely a friendly assistance to Mugabe? I think this loan has nothing to do with the major cause of forex shortage in Malawi, fuel shortage, power blackout on daily basis and water scarcity. The truth is the government is careless, It claims to have educated people while their certificate are Diploma Mills including those the president has. He bought them from India. ( I will talk about how India sells certificate). Back to the track, Are these the people you say have higher qualifications? I previously said that ” what you see as a development though myself I don’t see anything of that kind ” is just cause of a chance not because of vision or education as some of you think. Definitely it’s wrong to give away money entrusted to the others. The government perfidiously lied to the nation. We are discovering things like shortage of fuel, what did the government tell the people? This is a real engineering of economy because to engineer is to change the usual way to some crooked way to steal while the owners are cheering.
These Zimbabweans in the UK are stupid and foolish because they always want to give an impression that things are not improving in Zimbabwe,so that they can seek assaylum. That is why they booed Tshangirai when he asked them to go back. Every mzungu knows that things are getting better in Zimbabwe and as a result no assylum for mazezulu. Ndi opusa zedi agalu amenewa, ngati akufuna ndalama saziona because if you are an assaylum seeker, sunga sete nkhalamba.
Koma mlomwe ameneyu has failed us.Why should he borrow the evil Mugabe while malawi is in total poverty?Mugabe with his dictatorships ananyera ku west and he expects to continue his dictatorial tendencies by borrowing from his unpopular friend Bingu.Tshangirai has been fighting for democracy in Zimbabwe and this useless Mose wa lero is supporting this evil dictator because he was once married in Zimbabwe.Stop misusing our money and there capable malawians who can make better presidents than this nepotistic and tribal leader from bananaland.I’m fed up with the useless arrogance og this oldman.Ufiti usavi chiani?Ufa tinamugaira unakwana azitivutisanso cash apa.Ineyo i don’t have trust ndi nkhalamba zonse zinazunzidwa ndi Kamuzu ambiri mwai iwo amaoneka kuti ndi opepera.
I SUGGEST ZIMBABWEANS To fight their own battles and NOT include Malawi on issues of donor Aid!!!
Malawi is not to blame for your problems BUT your outdated leader whom you failed to vote out during elections. Zimbabweans I used to think they are enlightened and courageous pple BUT Alas!!! a bunch of cowards who have all left their country instead of fighting Mugabe head on!!!
Cant you emulate Malawians how they ousted KAMUZU same DICTATOR like Mugabe??? The difference is that we Malawians didnt run away to UK, RSA, Botswana etc BUT we faced Kamuzu BY unanimously VOTING for Multiparty and thereafter Multiparty President!!!! Whats wrong with you Zimbabeans? If you all run away from your country who is going to solve your problems?
SADC cant help you, forget it, its a bunch of failures as well. These are your own problems, created by yourselves and nothing to do with us Malawians!! Why do you want EU to punish Malawi for your stupidity?
We have been giving you maize and you cant appreciate this? Shall we suspend our food staff also so as to strangle you to death? The EU AID is used to buy farm inputs which we use to produce maize which is freely given to you. Let EU stop its AID to Malawi and Malawi will also stop feeding you and lets come back and talk who is who? Think before you write rubbish to EU!!!
Even your Shangrai is just nothing more than a UK Muppet!!!!
You need another new opposition leader who is radical NOT Yes Bwanas like Shangrai!!!
YOU HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO MY FRIENDS!!!
Zoseketsa kwabasi. Malawi mpaka kupeleka loan ku dziko ngati Zimbabwe? Ayi ndithu kalipokalipo. We are just too poor to do this. We are ofcourse a sovereign state but we must learn to take some of these criticisms. EU itha kutikhaulitsadi.
The second term. The old man Bingu is losing the plot. DPP as a party needs to stand up to their leader otherwise they will all go down like MCP and UDF because of individual worship in the end it is ordinary people who suffer the most. God save our motherland, Malawi.
This is corruption. How does a whole country finance a customer to whom they sell maize? No wonder we have run out of foreign exchange to buy fuel.
Can our parliament debate this transaction so the country can be given the whole truth.
I have travelled in many countries in West Africa and central Africa,Many people regard Mugabe as a Hero, you would be surprised!
Bingu and mugabe’s relationship, will negatively affect us all for sure. I don’t understand why bingu is trading this nation like this.
Look now, malawi is been kicked out from aid that would benefit us, just because of bingu’s stupidity and selfishness. Shame on him.
failing strategy
