Herbalist arrested for causing death
Police in Ntcheu arrested a herbalist, Laiden Chinkhwangwa 46, of Liyada village in the area of Inkosi Mpando in Ntcheu for being suspected to have poisoned to death a five year old boy and leaving two other people seriously sick.
According to Ntcheu Police Station Officer, Lawrence Kamzenga the suspect, on Saturday was invited by the child’s uncle, Davie Kajombo 28, to his home in Chitete village in the same area to administer a concoction on two of his nephews to exorcise them from witchcraft.
Kamzenga said the two children Madalitso Zawoni 5, and Kennedy Davis 7, together with their uncle, took the concoction and the two boys immediately started vomiting.
“Madalitso died on the way as they were being taken to Ntcheu district hospital by neighbors in an attempt to save lives of the three,” said Kamzenga.
According to Kamzenga, Kajombo alleged that he took the drug to stop his abdominal pains.
Davis and Kajombo were admitted to Ntcheu district hospital where reports indicate that the two were improving and that they would soon be discharged.
“We have arrested Chinkhwangwa on allegations of causing death as we are waiting for a postmortem report of late Zawani and results from Chitedze research station where we have sent the concoction for testing,” said Kamzenga.
