Malawi’s HIV+ soldier arrested for defilement
Malawi Police have arrested a soldier of Malawi Defence Force (MDF) defilement of a primary school pupil in the northern region city of Mzuzu.
Police spokesman for Mzuzu, Edward Longwe confirmed the arrest of Suzgho Mwenelupembe of Moyale Barracks and he is being held in police custody.
According to police spokesman, Mwenelupembe defiled an epileptic primary school pupil on May 28 – last week Thursday – at his house.
“Police will take him to court for prosecution,” said Longwe.
He explained that Mwenelupembe who is a teacher at Moyale Primary school defiled the girl when she came to collect a transfer’s letter at the school.
Mwenelupembe who was the victim’s class teacher took the pupil to his home allegedly for prayer sessions on her illness.
He then applied his reckless sexual thrills on the girl who reported him to authorities.
Medical reports from Mzuzu central hospital indicated that the girl was indeed defiled and that the soldier is receiving anti retroviral drugs.
However, the girl was tested HIV negative.
Nonetheless, her parents have expressed worry that she may have been infected with an ultimately fatal virus which may be tested at a later stage
The development comes after a Magistrate court in Salima convicted a kinder garten school owner and teacher Macdonald Kabwabwa, 46, for defiling a pupil.
Kabwabwa infected her with HIV, the virus that causes Aids.
