Malawi’s Robert Mugabe in prison

Deputy Commissioner of Prison, Tobia Nowa wants the use of CCTV in jails
A 45 year old man accused of serial murder, rape and robbery is being kept on remand under tight security at Domasi prison in Zomba, Nyasa Times can reveal.
According to police records the suspect Robert Mugabe was arrested last year and is yet to appear before the court of law.
He was picked in connection with a succession of murders and rape incidents in communities surrounding Zomba, Phalombe, Mulanje and Chiradzulu districts.
His arrest is said to have attracted a pocket of celebrations among communities in Jali, Zomba district where the suspect hails from.
Mugabe whose name resembles that of the Zimbabwean tyrant leader has been operating under various characters and according to the police it had become difficult for him to be traced and busted.
“It’s true last year we arrested a man believed to be a dangerous thug and his name is Robert Mugabe. We have been looking for him for so many years and he is being suspected to have been behind several killings and aggravated burglary,” said a police officer who was part of the team that nabbed the suspect but did not want to be mentioned.
Deputy Malawi Prisons Chief Tobias Nowa asked for more to time to check with authorities at Domasi prison and promised to come back to this reporter, however, he did not honour his promise.
But speaking in confidence a warden at the prison where Mugabe is being kept confirmed to Nyasa Times about the development.
He also added that the suspect is being kept under a watchful eye as “we fear he might break out one day if we don’t keep him under maximum security because he is a dangerous criminal.”
Asked on why the suspected hard-core criminal is not being kept at the Zomba maximum prison, the warden said Domasi prison officer-in-charge communicated to the office of commissioner chief and his deputy on several occasions about transferring the suspect but said “up to now nothing has been done.”
“Domasi prison has very small capacity to keep under custody a person of Mugabe’s calibre, he is capable of doing anything but we’re trying to give him as much attention as possible. However, we would have been relieved if he was taken to Zomba prison.”
Nowa is on record in the media proposing the use CCTV cameras in jails to monitor movements of inmates.

Mugabe amaneyo ofunika afulidwe…….komanso ena ofanana naye zochitika aone zomwezi. Big up Malawi Police.
If the Nyasa Times wants to be taken seriously, it’s writers need refrain from sounding like MDC party cadres. The “the Zimbabwean tyrant leader”? Since when do ‘tyrants’ never miss elections, have a parliamentary opposition, and share the government with members of that opposition?
If anyone needs to be denounced, it is the MDC, and it’s complicity with the Bush administration in destroying the Zimbabwean currency through the financial sanctions spelled out in sections 4C, 4D and 3 of the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act of 2001. The MDC are opportunists, of the Tshombe type, who will kill any number of their fellow countrymen to get to power. They’re the worst kinds of Uncle Toms. Contrast that with President Mugabe, who not only brought democracy to Rhodesia/Zimbabwe, but who did the most democratic thing any president in Africa has ever done – he has returned Zimbabwe’s land to over 314,000 of his fellow countrymen. No one in Malawi has even come close to doing the same.
Dear Mr. K Not true. Noone needs to be denounced here at all. There is no complicity to talk of and the real issues are what you seem oblivious to. The elections, what elections? What opposition? There is no such thing to validate tyrants. ANyasa saakulakwitsa ayi. Mugabe is a tyrant.Full Stop. If, as you say he did the most democratic thing any African President has ever done, then why are his own people against him? The evidence is there for all to see. The country has the greatest number of economic refugees in SA, Moza, Malawi, UK, US , Australia, New Zealand to mention a few. What rubbish !
my uncle tom is a nice guy….
Well done Malawi Police keep it up
