Malawi Police clash with journalists at World Cup roadshow
Armed police clashed with journalist at the arrival of the FIFA World Cup in at Kamuzu International Air port in the capital, Lilongwe.
The tug of war started after at exactly 18:39 hours GMT after a chartered Coca-Cola jet touched down at the air port.
The police blocked the excited and inquisitive local journalist for no apparent reason.
Surprisingly, a BBGL official Mzithembe Mbekeyani who was dealing with the media prior to the arrival of the cup feigned ignorance of the police acts of brutality.
One journalist wondered why they were blocked to take photos when actually they were invited and accredited by the same company.
The police nearly arrested a photo journalist working for The Guardian newspaper for making his way and managed to get a picture against the police wish.
Meanwhile some quarters of the society have accused President Bingu wa Mutharika for what they said hijacking the whole event.
Initially, the invent was supposed to take place at the Capital Hotel where VIP breakfast was supposed to be served in Viphya room and then celebrations could move to Marque for live performances and fan interaction.
But Mutharika ordered the breakfast to be moved to the State House at the eleventh hour.
President Mutharika said his country was honored to host to the world’s most prestigious sports trophy.
The 18-carat solid gold trophy is on an 86-country, 225-day tour before arriving in Johannesburg.
Swaziland and Lesotho will also host the World Cup Trophy before it arrives in South Africa in time for the World Cup draw on December 3.
The World Cup began its tour of the continent on September 21, making the first stop in Cairo, Egypt.
The tour, with Coca-Cola as partners is part of celebrations to mark the first time that the global football showcase will be held on African soil.

Mrs Director of Informataion has very little power on this one. Malawi should instead focus on extricating itself from its current mess-forex, water, electricity, e.t.c. Not the world cup
Reform should begin with their uniform, safety boots, houses, salaries,ma desk a m’ma ofesi awo.Inu olo nsapato ya mu warehouse imawoneka yabwino.Koma gondola amabvala a Polisi zija zikamawapweteka, what else do you expect? To vent their anger on the general public. Why?Akuwopa kulankhula ndi chitsulo cha njanji ku phiri uku(Man in the Hills).
Ngati ndidzayambitse guerilla group pa MW ndi chifukwa cha a polisi and not the sleeping soldiers because of their chimbawula and tear gas.Kodi Bingu sungawatumidzeko ku afghanistani anyamatawa?Ma British ndi ma Americans sakuchita involve African countries in that conflict because they do not want to share OIL with us.LOL!!
OK, nwhat now Malawi Police? Kodi zautsamunda zikadalipo? I have never heard of such a thing in a democratic country. Zamanyazi! I take it Nyasaland is not a democracy….and Bingu should lead AU? Some comedy crap?
I think at every time in our country, the ruling political party (meaning the party where the president is from) should not have majority representation in parliament to keep these stupid politicians on their toes!!! I am pissed off with what’s going on in Malawi!
why JOURNALISTS?WHY NOT DAYLIGHT CRIMINALS WHO GO SCOT FREE IN FULL VIEW OF THE ARMED POLICE OFFICER.NTCHITO YA POLICE NDI CHITETEZO OSATI CHILESETSO.
Vu.No matter how you will reform them they will not change. Muziwaperera.

A Malawi lets learn to respect our National Presidents when giving comments on the Internet like this.Even in your house when your father makes a mistake you don’t tell everybody out.Its a shame. Now about the bahaviour of our Malawi Police lets accept that everyone is an expert in his/her field you may not know the reason behind banning the Journalists. It is not averyone who knows security issues.Don’t forget that the Malawi Police Service comprises of your and my relatives. Not all of us can be in the same field that is why thereis a division of labour everywhere.Lest i forget, a change is a gradual process lets pray that our Police should improve for the better everyday.Taphunzirani ku mayamika wina akachita zabwino amzanga, mukundiuza kuti pa zonse zabwino zomwe police yathu yakhala yikuchita monga kuchepetsa ngozi, umbava ndi umbanda simukuziwona koma kumawona zoipa basi.Amzanga nthawi yonyoza police inapita panopa aliyense akuchitira umboni za ntchito yabwino yomwe Malawi Police service ikuchita. My last words to Malawi Police service is; “KEEP YOUR PROFILE TIGHT” Security is not an issue of going in the office and call for a secretary to bring a cup of coffee and then vacate.Don’t get discouraged thumba la tambe amamasula ndi tambe yemwe.you are the ones who knows what to do and not to do at what,when……..I love my president and the malawi police service.BINGU WOYEE,PETER MUKHITHO WOYEEE
