A thoughtless man in Mchinji who wanted to make quick riches by allegedly selling his biological child has fallen in deep trouble as he is now languishing in police custody.

Chipiliro Mbewe was offering his two-and-half year old son at a mere K30 000 but his scheme was thwarted after a prospective buyer reported the matter to the law enforcers.

Mchinji Police Station spokesperson, Paswell Phiri, said Mbewe, 22, was arrested on Sunday after he offered his son for sale to Yona Mtanga.

“We received a tip from the potential customer who came at our office to report. He left the father and child at their home saying he was going to take the cash,” he said.

According to the police publicist, the father claimed he had so many debts and wanted to make up for some of them.

Mbewe, who comes from Kapunula village, Traditional Authority Mkanda in the district, fathered the son with a school girl who has since gone back to school.

“The suspect will appear before the court this week to answer a charge of selling or disposing of a person as a slave,” he said.

The offence is contrary to section 267 of the country’s penal code and, according to Phiri, carries a maximum punishment of seven years imprisonment with hard labour if found guilty and convicted in the court of law.

  3. Kachebere Girl says:

Mayi! Up to that extent! what was wrong with you? The Police please deal with this mad man but you should also deal with Yona Mtanga as well. Koma ku Kachebere ana sanatheko? I am shocked with this Kachebere man. He will finish us now. People at Kachebere are you alive? Or you have been eaten by this HUNGRY LION MTANGA? Take care of your children please ndi chimanga timalima m’makomomu tingadzalire.

You have said if found guilty it carries a maximum punishment of seven years Imprisonment with Hard Labour but this is not enough. What if the baby died after being sold would you released him? Mwanayotu anali maliro. A Police pangani zantchito. Tili ndi nkhawa ndi ana m’makomomu. Walitumpa sana, aposeni ku shatini.

It’s a pity that the man is from Mchinji, probably a Ngoni.

I would have expected this to come from Llomwes or such other small-minded tribes. Man you have let us down, big time!

Here we go again, I am always very irriated when I see negative tribal statements.( whether joking or not). I think it is about time to continue educating ourselves that we are just Malawians. No tribe is superior or inferiot to another. We ought to bring the beauty and positives of the tribes. All the put downs are primitive and devisive. If anyone wants to make put down remarks as of a form of commedy, then I would suggest to these individuals to find another forum. Not the general “civilized” news columns which are supposed to be informative and descent. Malawians are descent people and this has to be said loud and clear!

      • Ambelechile says:

Even our fake Ngwazi has been the advocate of promoting tribalism. What do you expect from his people?
He claims to be Ngwazi yet he has been running away from the ngwazi all these years.Koma tiziti mutu ukugwira bwinobwino?

    • Jones Stima says:

you are so silly! so you think the Lhomwes are capable of doing this devilish business! Oh! pliz leave us alone! you should be ashamed of yourself Ngoni warrior!

  5. MAXMAN WA TOLI says:

NGONI WARRIOR THIS issue has got nothing to do with tribes. That is myopic thinking.the issue here is about morals ofv the people inviolved. it is about a decayed heart. There is no more to it THE Police ampane ameneyu because to reach the extent of selling your child that means ana anzako watha kugulitsa, mfiti imalizila ana ake itadya mudzi wonse.

the buyer i think revealed the whole deal coz of the price the fater had put an exvorbitant fee on the child hence the usual customer could not afford hence anakayitsanula diluyo.
