Man impregnates 15-year-old daughter
A physically challenged Dedza man, Austin Mtika, is grinding his teeth as he awaits court judgment on his case of raping and impregnating his 15-year-old step daughter.
According to Section 132 of the country’s Penal Code, rape case carries a maximum sentence of death or life imprisonment with hard labour if found guilty.
Mtika, who hails from Mgunditsa village, Chief Kasumbu in the district, already appeared before the Dedza Magistrate Court where he pleaded guilty to the charge and is on full remand at Dedza Prison awaiting the judgment, according to Dedza Police spokesperson Franklin Gausi.
Gausi said Mtika, who walks on clutches, had been satisfying his sexual desires on the step daughter after promising to marry her.
“His step father pleaded guilty to the charge and actually told the court that he saw nothing wrong in sleeping with her because she was the one taking care of him. The daughter is now five months pregnant,” said Gausi.
According to the police spokesperson, the girl told police that she gave in to her step father’s demands after she was threatened that she would be heavily beaten should she dare to reveal the issue.
“The girl said the father told her not to get worried because he was going to marry her because her mother never cares for him,” said Gausi.
The daughter revealed the matter to her mother, who is a mobile business lady, after observing that she had missed her periods for five months.
The father is said to have taken advantage of the wife’s unavailability at home to trap the step daughter into sleeping with her.

Kelvin, i still beg to differ with you and all those that think just because it has happened to a 15 year old who has monthly periods then it is okay, well i will let you in on something here mate, my nephew of 9years of age speaks and argues as if he is a 16year old. One day my mum caught me having a go at him and sat me down that this boy regardless of all the technology that he can operate and the knowledge he possesses,he is still just a you boy.
You see what my friend in my time i did not know how to express myself at such a tender age and i dared not to touch things like television and radio as you might break them. In this modern day and age children might act and behave or even speak as adults but that does not necessarily state that we should treat them with contempt.
Coming back to the subject at hand, this girl was left in the hand of a legal guardian (the step father)who is in a possition of trust to look after the child and not sleep with her. I do not know the legal age of sexual consent in Malawi but for in the Uk it is 16 year, and men who court girls as young as this are looked upon or even treated with contempt as they either used their maturity and or even coerced the girl to sleep with them.
Do you think that if the man had kept his pants on this would have happened? Alot of men in Malawi are sleeping with young girls probably due to superstitious beliefs that they will be cured of HIV and the fact that these people live in the rural areas of all the three major cities, the cases go unreported. Kelvin, you might have the knowledge of difiling but you lack integrity. This is a case of arguing without basis and if i might ask you, would you sleep with a 15 year old yourself if the girl consented? I pity you mate for even thinking that it was her fault.

It seems the girl was also willing to do it, because if not she could report to her elders. But she is complaining now because of the results, so the issue should not be kugwilira koma responsibility of the pregnant.
