MCP ‘Recovery Movement’ declares war against Tembo

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Recovery Movement has condemned John Tembo for firing spokesman Ishmael Chafukila and stripping him of his membership of the party has declared “war” in the party.
The movement’s chair, Chris Banda said Tembo initially suspended Chafukira unilaterally for giving an interview to the media co- authoring a media release with him that among other things conceded defeat in the just ended general election and called on him to pave way for new leadership of the party by honourably resigning from his position as the leader of our party.
“Hon Tembo has now declared an open internal war in MCP, not just against Hon Chafukira, Chris Banda and other leaders in fore front of calling for his resignation, but against the whole membership of MCP that is bleeding in silence at his continued desire to destroy our party,” said a statement by Banda.
“Hon Tembo must know that he will lose this war and has chosen a shameful exit path, following his decline to resign honourably,” he said.
Banda who once led a party called Mass Movement for Young Generation said the decisions by Tembo will be challenged and that his “desire to destroy young leaders in MCP will come to an end soon.”
He said the expulsion of Chafukila s is part of Tembo’s effort to silence the voices of bravery in the party so that he can continue to lead MCP as a single voice.
“In fact through our party Hon Tembo has secured a small corner where he can continue to practice dictatorship and non consultative leadership that he perfected so well during the one party era. We will not allow him to do this much longer and it is the duty of every Malawian to help stop him,” challenged Banda.
The MCP Recovery Movement chair accused Tembo of stifling constituency development- saying the party was receiving K4.9 million from parliament in the last five years of its majority in parliament but the leader never distributed this funding to MPs to promote development in constituencies.
“When people in these constituencies have changed and voted for DPP as opposed to our party, Hon Tembo thinks he has been robbed of victory.
“Hon Tembo continues to apply his skills of destroying anybody who has talent in MCP. This is the skills he perfected so well during the 30 year rule of our party. People like Late Kate Kainja, Dr Ntaba, Mr. Kalebe, Mr Kutsaira, just to mention a few became victims of Hon JZU Tembo’s tactics.”
Banda said Tembo is a leader who knows only one style of leadership-“shout, threaten and silence for good if all fails.”
“The movement to recover MCP from Hon Tembo has braved the aggressive and uncompromising character of Hon Tembo to call for his resignation as the leader of our party because we strongly believe that contrary to a common belief that Hon Tembo has built MCP, the MCP survived because of the work of many dedicated Malawians who have hung in there to keep the legacy of Kamuzu going. Hon Tembo has in fact been an architect of MCP bad fate for many reasons,” said Banda.
MCP Recovery Movement says it believes Tembo will never be president of Malawi, no matter how long he tries to run for presidency through MCP and they will force him to leave the party by resigning.
