Minibus accident leaves 13 seriously injured

Minibus_crashesFive people are in the Intensive Care Unit at the Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe while eight others have been admitted to Dowa District Hospital after a cruising minibus they were traveling in from Salima to Lilongwe overturned four times.
 
The accident occurred near Chezi Trading Centre in Dowa district.
 
Central Region Police spokesperson  John Namalenga said the accident happened after a rear tyre of the minibus, registration number NU 3082 burst.
 
“The minibus was traveling from Salima to Lilongwe and was being driven by Thokozani Faiteni of Mtsiliza village in T/A Njewa in Lilongwe,” Namalenga  said.
 
All the passengers were first taken to Dowa District Hospital but five were later referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital because of the seriousness of their injuries.
 
Meanwhile, one of the accident victims, a toddler (believed to be about one and half-year-old) who cannot be identified is being kept at Dowa Police Station and the law enforcers are requesting parents or whoever with information on the child to go and identify it.
