witches1Mulanje supports amendment of witchcraft act
MULANJE, NOVEMBER 20, MANA: Chiefs, religious leaders and other stakeholders in Mulanje Thursday agreed that the current Witchcraft Act be amended so that perpetrators of witchcraft get punished.
The suggestions for amendment of the act follow a consultative meeting held at Mulanje organized by the Malawi Law Commission to solicit ideas from the public on how to address the witchcraft problem.
Stakeholders commended government through the Malawi Law Commission for the consultative meetings, saying stories about witchcraft were widespread and endangered people’s lives.
In his remarks, Senior Chief Malemia of Nsanje, who is one of the commissioners, said the issue of witchcraft could not be left to the Law Commission alone to decide on how to curb it.
An official at Malawi Law Commission, Isaac Songeya, said the current witchcraft act was instituted on May 12, 1911 adding that due to increasing witchcraft related incidences the commission had been getting calls for the amendment of the act since 1996.
At the meeting stakeholders agreed that witchcraft existed and that the act be amended to punish the culprits. The meeting also agreed that civic education be conducted to sensitise people to avoid victimizing innocent people especially the elderly.
It was also agreed that matters of witchcraft be settled in traditional courts comprising of a magistrate, traditional leaders as well as herbalists who would determine whether witchcraft took place or not.
Songeya said all the views that were suggested at the meeting would be discussed at a regional meeting to be held after the district consultative meetings.

This is a gud thing and the purnishment should be dealth sentence by stoning because you can not keep a wicth in prison hoping that he will stop the practice.ADZIKATAMBABE

    • Kwanunkwanu says:

So Mnyasa will be doing the stoning. By the way what is dealth sentence? Witch craft is complicated. Does the government have structures and knowlegde on how to deal with matters related to witch craft?

      • Picoack says:

Vuto ndiloti a Malawi mumakhulupirira komanso kuopa ufiti. Honestly, no one can PROVE BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT that so and so ndi mfiti. Chonde abale, tisapepuse our courts. The courts are already dealing with a lot.

    • Visulo says:

The first one to be stoned will be you Mnyasa

  2. DC Namalamba says:

a nyasa times adakuuzani ndani kuti mfiti imaoneka choncho? That picture irritates me please remove it but am no witch.

That is not an African nose, is the Science they got on website, all witchcraft. Humans are smart but they can do evil with their smartness. How many nuclear bombs are people keeping in their backyards and say no to other? All witchcraft, how many people die in African Countries with Gun Shots as If Africa invited a Gun? All witchcraft, African Fight was like that of the movie Old movies depicting Greece, real fight not hiding and dropping bombs to innocent people telling the world that they want to kill Bin Laden, all witchcraft.

They Destroyed Iraq and later tell the world that they were mis-Informed, all witchcraft, they are now ready to get Answer from Obama to Increase the Troops in Afghanistan, all witchcraft, they tried to Destroy Vietnam but they failed and Run away like mad rats, all witchcraft but they failed at that time, they see weeping souls in Sudan and still wants the oil and sell them guns, all witchcraft my friend depending on how you want to define it. The professor with who is the minister of Justice is using more a head formatted by the west; maybe he will need to reformat the head to run the games of Africa. They need more books like that of “Majoti”, that is thinking like African but good thinking and positive than these so called Acts, that the books needed in our schools and play it on radio to tell the old people who practice so called witchcraft that together we can change the world.

Go with silly civic education and hear more rise in fears or witchcraft out. Enjoy the Computers and the Software, some will sale Anti-Virus but the virus will still let your PC crash, all witchcraft.

You can be D.C of mfumu kwanu, don’t clear yourself that you are not a witch, just know yourself, your last words made me laugh.

Munjongana-Nyongana, its complicated to talk about this, the way to stop it is those who wrote the “Act” to use those who “thinks” they know these people exists and use their good powers because they are both doing the same thing only that others “if” they exist do it to harm “others”, just like what the bible will tell about God and Devil, Check the cover of Confrontation album of Bob Marley, a man on a Horse trying to kill the Devil, they embraced the teachings of the Bible, keep dread rocks just like Samson in the Bible, in other ethic tribes, you will also see people with dreadlocks, but they are not Rastas.

Religions can also act like witchcrafts, many bad things happening in Churches in the same house of the so called God. No wonder people like Samson if I am not wrong broke the pillars of the Temple. Even Jesus hated the Church, he taught in the natural life. Which is the Witchcraft? People will talk about Ghosts, but fight them in light if you ever seen one and fight like a solder with the torch to burn them if ever you have seen one. Bring more light in villages, too much darkness and you start scaring each other. Roman Catholic just invited Anglican recently to Vatican, you all can Google that, one is trying to control the other, their religion left most countries lose their forefathers and foremothers faith and install their so called God. I don’t know if English has word foremothers, just don’t like anything saying men men men, men what! Maybe Catholic and Anglican needs a New Nun to Run those institutions, not Pope pope and let the ladies cry by serving them.

All religions try to talk about God, but some have destroyed the faith of many people. Where do you think your forefather went before Christianity of Islam or what ever you think it’s the best religion? Can you tell me that they all went to hell? Dalai Lama is peaceful; do you think he will go to hell because he is not a Christian? Which witchcraft are they trying to catch? Catch the Human mind, and they will not try to act like they are Gods. Humans are smart, that’s why even in the Bible you will find magician from Egypt. The thing is the bible if reformed; it will still help many who already embraced it because they can’t trace their forefathers’ religion.

“The meeting also agreed that civic education be conducted to sensitise people to avoid victimizing innocent people especially the elderly.” ***This is the only line which makes more sense to me, we need the traditions, that are science, but they should get knowledge of love. Talk about the calendar we use, that’s all rubbish. Get the calendar from the east, real calendar which follows the moon changes and it never miss. The calendar we are following is just saving the interest of a certain Empire, Roman empire, its now spread all over the world and blended in Capitalism. Break the Churches and Build New Church of Hope and salvation of minds. Some are busy in Church stealing monies, some busy using the Church as a means to get there politicians in positions.

We will dance, some made a movie 2012, all capitalism and the product of distorted minds, failing to know the origin of beings. Aristotle said something like “there is a blind corner even in the head of a sage”, I believe Charles Darwin was one of the people walking on earth with a blind corner. Chakes Darwin was busy telling the whole world that people came from Apes that is witchcraft my friends, children are eating the fruits of school witchcrafts right from schools. Apes are Apes. Why do we have different kinds of dogs, dogs of all colours and sizes, birds of all colours and shapes, Apes can just be part of the Human family like Lions are part of tigers, cats, Leopards and so forth. Witchcraft is even in our brutal police force, those are the people who need to be locked, and they even rob the poor in their uniforms, very corrupted witchcrafts which need to be locked for a while. Common sense is not common.

      Life goes on.

  4. Do not rush things. Evidence in such cases is hard to come by and/or comprehend unless there self confession wrong people may end up either being convicted or acquitted.

  5. Chipanti Jr says:

Ise tawaPhoka we are against the amendment to the act. Uhawi is a religion and in malawi we have freedom of religion. Why do you want to penalise fwiti just because wakusopa mpingo wakupambana na uwo mukusopa imwe? Even the Bible recognises witchcraft. Practicing witchcraft is not wrong, but teaching children withcraft should be punishable.

Tilekani ise from Phoka tipangenge uhawi withu, otherwise timulowaninge waka apa… kamuzganga ndi fwiti yayi, kweni tilinganenge!

  6. Chikhamu Rodgers says:

I hope this is just a mask symbolising a witch. If is a real witchcraft then a photographer must tell us how he got this.
I don’t have any idea on this issue, since what i have are just hearsays. What you will discuss about this will be fine for me.

  7. Tadeyo says:

LOL…hearsay pa m’malawi!…zikhulupiliro za ufiti anzanu anasiya 12th century…you guys are centuries behind….now we just watch harry potter for fun only…

  8. Kholowa M'kabudula says:

Yes witchcraft is a choice of oneself,as someone claiming as a religion. But no religion should not force children to join them, since some of these are just taught unwillingly or unknowingly, what kind of religion is that? Is’nt that breaking or violating these children’s right’s.Anlater on they force them to kill their relatives and parents is that fair? They need to be punished once identified with proper evidence!Akaotcedwa angapo ufitiu udzachepa!

  9. Thoko says:

Anyasa anajambulila Camera yopaka juju kutsogolo ndipo chithunzi chamfiti chinabwereratu mpopo.
Mfiti imeneyo ili ku MCP koma sindiyitchula chifukwa ili hamala yoopsya yakhala ikumaliza nawo anthu omususa.

  10. JNZ says:

I suppose witchcraft operates in the spiritual realm. Legal people help us, how shall we effectively construct laws that can judge spiritual acts. And again, you talk of incorporating sing’angas to assist in examining evidence, I for one I think most of the so called a sing’anga ndiye afiti akulu. Ndiye iwowo angawaweluze ndani. What if the so consulted sing’anga and the accused ali pa udani, mudziwa bwanji umboni umene akupeleka sing’angayo ndi wonama. Inu a sing’angatu they are agents of Satan and Satan has no mercy, his job is to steal, kill and destroy. So believe me any accused will not be spared. Why are we sinking so low by going backwards instead of progressing. Nkhani ya ufiti ndiyovuta kwabasi chifukwa ndi ya uzimu while ife ndi athupi. Tiyeni tisazivutitse nkhalamba which could easily be accused of practising ufiti m’midzimu mwina because of their poor aging look. Ati iih m’mene wandiyang’anira muja amwene kaya ndigona kaya. Does it mean ufiti kulibe ku Malawi, uuuuh it could be naive to say so, but its a complex issue to be dealt with by Government. At best may be if the accused confesses themselves, then action should be taken, koma sing’anga aaah! ndakayika. I fear innocent people may be victimized.
