Raising Malawi linked to Kabbalah movement
A documentary programme broadcast on British TV, Channel 4 has linked the growth of mystic Kabballah faith in Malawi to Raising Malawi charity co-founded by Queen of Pop Madonna and Micheal Berg, the co-director of the Kabbalah Centre.
The documentary by journalist Jacques Peretti – Madonna and Mercy: What really happened – broadcast on Monday night attempts to unravel the tangle of secrecy and Kabbalah strings attached to adoptions of Madonna of Malawian children and the charity.
Peretti who featured Malawi journalist Mabvuto Banda and translator Vitima Ndovi describes Rising Malawi as “Trojan horse for the Kabbalah takeover of a poor African state.”
Banda also raised suspicion on Raising Malawi and the links with the Kabbalah movement.
“Kabbalah has been training a lot of Malawians to be trainers of trainers,” said Banda.
He said a number of Malawian teachers went for a Kabbalah induction in America and to train on educational and moral programme called Spirituality for Kids (SFK) that it wants to roll out across Malawi as a Kabbalah programme.
“This is what raises suspicion on Raising Malawi,” said Banda.
In the programme, Madonna is shown explaining in her promotional film about her work in Malawi that SFK is about “karma”.
“In Kabbalah we learn that if we want something we have to give something,” said Madonna.
Kabballah movement is said to be pumping money to schools and orphanages for their “loony religion”.
Malawi is officially a secular state. Christianity is the largest faith followed by Islam. However, the country’s constitution guarantees freedom of religion.
Kabbalah remains a mystical spiritual teaching.
In the documentary, Channel 4 reporter interviewed Spirituality For Kids’ director Philippe van den Bossche outside Malawi’s High Court in Blantyre but he was tight lipped.
“Excuse me, are you Mr. Van Der Bossche? I wonder if you would mind telling me what you are doing here?” Peretti asked Bossche
”I was just admiring what a beautiful sunny day it is here in Malawi,” he replied.
”It is indeed. But I’d like to talk to you about what Raising Malawi is really up to here,” pressed the British journalist.
”And I’d rather talk about what a beautiful sunny day it is,” tight lipped Kabbalah boss said.
There is little information available on Bossche who mentioned on his Facebook site that one of his best friends is Philip Berg, the founder of Kabbalah in the US.
Channel 4 journalist described him as a “Smooth operator”.
In an interview with spokesman for Ministry of Women and Children, Silas Jeke in the documentary on the links of Kabbalah, he also kept his comments close to the chest.
Jeke also refused to be drawn to comment on assertion that Madonna managed to adopt David Banda though she was not resident of Malawi for 18 months as stipulated by the laws.
“That’s not really my area,” he said. “I believe the appropriate procedures were followed.”
Madonna was allowed to adopt Chifundo ‘Mercy’ James from Malawi on June 12 after the Supreme Court overturned the High Court ruling in April.
Judges had previously said she could not adopt because she was not a resident.
She first adopted David Banda in the country in 2006.
The two have since joined the Kabbalah.
