Blantyre Police say the man who was found dead in a septic tank in Zingwangwa Township has been identified as Beneti Mwafulirwa.

The 23-year-old Beneti was found in a composed state in the tank by Blantyre City Assembly (BCA) workers who were repairing a blocked tank last Thursday.

According to Police Spokesperson Beatrice Mwachande, the deceased was identified by his brother Jonathan.

She further disclosed, as indicated by Jonathan, Beneti was a mental patient who was staying with his parents in Zingwangwa and went missing on July 4, 2010.

Mwachande said a post-mortem revealed that Beneti died due to drowning. “We believe he might have fallen into the septic tank”, which is about two meters deep as stated by BCA Assistant Director of Engineering Services (Population Control), Stephen Kuyeli.

Beneti hailed from Tambala Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Tambala in the central district of Dedza.

Nyasatimes, your site needs some cleaning up. You really need to start putting in place some moderation policies if you want to keep your readership.

Unless you are telling me that promotion of nepotism and profanity is your policy, I see no effort on your part in so far as moderation of these two elements is concerned. How can you accept comments that practically calling for the extermination of tribe or for that matter comments zotukwana za munsalu? Really?

In particular, I have noted that extreme regionalistic and vulgar language seem to be accepted when they are written in vernacular. This gives me the impression that you are either using automated moderation tools that can only track English profanity terms or your moderators have little or no knowledge of our vernacular language.

My parents are visiting and they read nyasatimes to stay up to date on our local current affairs but of late my old man says although he likes the speed at which you report local news he is now staying away from nyasatimes because the language in your comments just puts him off – it is so hardcore he cannot believe its coming from Malawians on a malawian forum. And this coming from a man from central region, just how bad can your regionalism get, guys?

If you are short of man power please ask for volunteers, with all these people commenting online, I am sure some of us can help with moderation.

Just to thank you for cleaning up the mess. Please make it an ongoing thing. Zimachititsa manyazi kuona kholo likuwerenga nawo phunzo in the comments. I am sure it is possible to argue one’s case vigorously without resorting to bad language.
