Woodworth buys K6m vehicle as hubby seeks legal alms
Friends of Mulanje (Fomo) boss Mary Woodworth has bought a brand new Toyota D4D at a whooping MK6 million from Speedy’s motors in Malawi while her hubby Keith is fundrasing in Britain for her legal fees.
Woodworth, 46, who was born in Malawi but is now a British citizen is currently answering charges of trespassing land belonging to Chitakale Tea Estate.
Campaign to raise funds for Woodworth is meant to help her pay lawyers representing her as Malawi government’s various state agencies are investigating the NGO boss for alleged corruption, tax evasion and dual nationality.
“When I read the Nyasa Times story I was shocked that she is failing to raise legal fees for legal battle with Chitakale Tea Estate but she was here (Speedy’s Motors)last week and bought the Toyota Raider D4D at MK6 million,” said an official at Speedy’s Motors.
“She was to pay a sum higher than that but it was duty free because she argued before authorities she works for orphans,” the official who cannot be revealed for fear of reprisals said.
In Malawi a 4×4 Toyota D4D double cabin is for the rich, senior and company executives.
Malawi Revenue Authority – the country’s tax collector- detained her container at Mwanza boarder post for allegedly undervaluing high value items in the container. She is also being probed for allegedly hold two passports of Malawi and Britain. Laws in Malawi forbid dual nationality
However, Woodworth’s partners in UK have stood by her saying indeed she looks after orphans, an assertion some traditional leaders in Mulanje contest.
I am smelling a rat, this lady is doing something sinister surely. Malawian orphans should not be a goldmine to some misguided individuals. What is wrong with us malawians? it seems we are resigned to our fate and simply accept things which are not normal as normal. Ukuti ndi NGO iti imene siimaba? Can this be justification? no wonder malawi doesn’t make any strides. Have you ever been close to orphans who do suffer? After being humiliated like that,i would even do the same thing of buying myself a NICE car just to take the stress off.Anyway she just wants to prove to the MULLIS that she has a life too,so to HELL with your cruel hearts.GOT MY MONEY TOO.HELLO!!!!!!
