The bank is running the promotion for farmers by encouraging them to save their money in fixed deposit accounts with minimum being K20 000.

Mzuzu Branch Service Centre manager Tryson Kalanda told Nyasa Times in an interview on the sidelines of a presentation ceremony in Mzuzu where Matiyazi Phiri was awarded a tobacco bailing jerky worth K400 000.

“The promotion was aimed at encouraging farmers in the country and we’ve been overwhelmed by the response. We’ve actually achieved more than what we expected,” said Kalanda.

He said apart from the grand prize other major prizes including six oxcarts will also be splashed to successful farmers.

Phiri told Nyasa Times that he had entered the competition with a cash deposit of K1 000 000.

“I never thought I would win,” Phiri said smiling, “I’m happy I emerged successful.”

Phiri, who hails from Rumphi, called on fellow farmers not just to spend their money lavishly but rather to “bank for future endeavours.”
