Speaking to Nyasa Times, NAM General Secretary Carol Bapu said the new coach has already been identified and what remains is paper work which they expect to finalise by the end of this week.

“I can assure you that the new Coach for the Under 21 national team has already been identified and Malawians will know everything before the end of the week. It hasn’t been easy for our technical team to identify a Coach since we lost Connice Mhone who until her death was Coach for the Under-21,” said Bapu.

The NAM GS also brushed aside assertions that the new Coach will have an uphill task to make immediate impact considering time factor as the tournament in Botswana is a few days away from throwing off.

“The new Coach to be named this week won’t panic on who to pick for the African qualifiers because the team has already been identified and we will announce the players to go in camp before Sunday 19 June.

“We will give the new Coach 3-4 weeks to assess the players before the competition throws off. The team is expected to depart for Botswana on 14 July,” Bapu said.

Meanwhile, the Malawi national netball team supporters committee is busy soliciting funds to enable some fans travel by road to cheer the junior Queens in Botswana.

According to the Vice Chairperson of the committee, Thandiwe Kantchowa, the committee needs K5 million to ferry a group of supporters to Botswana.

Kantchowa said the plan is to have the supporters travel by road on 21 July and are expected back in the country on 30 July.
