No Malawian artist nominated in AFRIMMA Awards
Nominees for the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) were announced on Wednesday and Malawi has lost another opportunity as no local artist has been nominated.
AFRIMMAs are the biggest African music awards in Diaspora and are in their 3rd edition this year, after the success of the 1st and 2nd editions in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
This year’s prestigious award ceremony is slated for October 15 in Dallas, USA.
As Malawi misses out on the list, neighbouring countries Tanzania and Zambia have received several nominations, with prominent names Diamond, Roberto and Cleo Ice Queen making the list.
Other regional countries that have been nominated are Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.
Cassper Nyovest, AKA, Wizkid, Davido, Sarkodie, Flavour and Emtee are some of the big names to compete in what has become one of the highly esteemed African music awards events.

The problem, is that every song in Malawi sounds like Kwasa kwasa and is danced to, like kwasa kwasa. The so called “Rap groups” are so shallow. They lack depth and creativity- same with other groups.
They are all like Kwasakwasa contemporary musicians. I would like to urge all the artists across the music spectrum to try to distinguish Rap, R&B, House, Raggie and other genre`s from each other.
They need to observe the best in other countries and learn how they can use their creativity to make in rods based on the music type.
NO…. only that umamvera nyimbo za kwasakwasa iweyo dzukani…….i wil just give u one single example….matafale never did kwasakwasa neither does it sound that…..our Lawi never sounds kwasakwasa…..not even Gwamba…. kaya iwe umamvera malawi wake uti kaya

Inu ingozisiyani izi. Malawians are failures. Talk of football, music, journalism, Writing etc there will always be Malawi black out. CNN Journalists of the Year, BBC Journalists of the Years, AAMA, Afrimma etc these are just far fetched dreams to Malawians. It’s a country of mediocrity, all they know is government this and government that day in and day out.
