No money to drill boreholes, says Minister Chaponda
Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Dr George Chaponda Tuesday said money was not allocated to drill boreholes in the 2015/16 budget.
He said this in parliament when he was responding to a question from Member of Parliament (MP) for Dedza North, Patrick Chilondola who asked the Minister to consider drilling boreholes in the villages of Sumaili, Chitsatsa and Mpinda in his constituency.
Chaponda asked members to find funds from other organizations or donors to help drill boreholes in the needy areas.
He said they have already submitted budget to Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning for the drilling of boreholes as government is aware of water situation.
The Minister said plans are in place to make sure that portable water is supplied.
