The supporters’ regional elections were held at Mzuzu Stadium and were graced by Super League of Malawi (Sulom), representatives from Big Bullets regional supporters’ committee members and the Nomad’s supporters from zones across Mzuzu.

Speaking in an interview after being re-elected as regional chairperson, Joseph Misinde played down those who were against the old committee retaining their positions unopposed.

“People assume we get paid for being in such positions when we don’t. Simply, we are sacrificing our time to help our club grow voluntarily.

“Of course in a democracy, it’s not good to be re-elected unopposed, everyone wants a competitor in an election so that you can compete and win fairly,” he said.

The chairperson, however, said the re-election of most of the regional committee will accord them time to advance their agenda which includes setting up supporters zones in all the six districts in the north.

Alex Mbale, who represented Sulom at the elections, said it was important that clubs hold such elections so as to strengthen the clubs’ supporters. He said in this way, the supporters get involved in the running of the clubs.

“Supporters are vital as we look towards clubs’ commercialization and becoming independent. Such elections help them to achieve that as they get involved in the day to day business of the clubs by creating supporters zones,” said Mbale.

Joseph Misinde is now the new Nomads’ Northern Region Supporters Committee chairperson deputized by Michael Banda.

Chilipo Kayanda went unopposed as secretary and will be deputized by Vasco Msowoya, while Linda Kamanga is treasurer deputized with Geoffrey Thibu as her Vice treasurer. Six others were elected as committee members.

The elected members will be in the office for two years until fresh elections are held in 2018.
