Nomads goalie Chipuwa drafted into Malawi squad: Injury cover for Nthara

Mighty Wanderers goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa has been called in the final squad of Malawi national team as an injury cover for first choice goalie Simplex Nthara.

Chipuwa will be in the 20-man squad which is scheduled to take on Namibia on March 23, 2013 in the World Cup qualifiers.

The Flames will leave Blantyre for Namibia on Sunday after a stopover in Botswana to take on the Zebras on Tuesday in a friendly match.

Earlier on, the Flames technical panel excluded the Nomads shot-stopper for Nthara and Big Bullets first choice keeper Owen Chaima.

However, on Friday reports emerged from Mozambique where Nthara ply his trade that he has suffered an injury.

Flames caretaker mentor Eddington Ng’onamo confirmed the news with Nyasa Times that he had no choice but to draft in another goalkeeper.

Ng’onamo said instead it has pleased the technical panel to replace Nthara for  Nomads custodian Chipuwa, who he described as one of the best goalkeepers.

“With Chipuwa and Chaima we have good goalkeepers,” said Ng’onamo.

Chipuwa was outstanding in the just ended soccer season with his timely saves.
