Nomads reach Standard Bank Cup semis, thump Moyale

Mike Kaziputa’s goal in 20 minutes of first half was enough to knock out Moyale as Mighty Wanderers progressed to the semi-finals of the K28 million Standard Bank Knockout Cup in a pulsating match played at Mzuzu Stadium on Sunday.

Wanderers made an incredibly fast-paced start and were ahead within 20 minutes when striker Victor Mpinganjira was brought down in the 18 yard box and Kaziputa converted the spot kick.

He placed the ball into far corner of the opposite of side Moyale goal custodian McDonald Harawa who in the past weeks saved two spot kicks of Benin to make sure that Malawi national team sail through in AFCON qualifiers game

Wanderers will now face Silver strikers in the semi finals of the cup, a repeat of 2013 Standard Bank cup finals.

Chairman of Wanderers George Chamangwana told Nyasa Times that his team will defend the title and that they are ready to face Silver.

“It’s not going to be easy but we will fight to defend the cup at all cost,” said Chamangwana.

The complete semi finals line up is as follows:

Mafco FC vs Azam Tigers at Civo stadium
Mighty Wanderers Vs Silver strikers at Kamuzu Stadium
