Newly promoted TNM Super League outfit Mponela United has begun life in elite league with baptism of fire as they went down 5-2 at the hands of Kamuzu Barracks in a game played at Nankhaka Ground in Area 30.

Mponela’s direct style of play were no match for the soldiers, who produced a good performance showing signs that they are set to fight for points in the league campaign.

Joel Chipofya netted the first hat-trick of the season with Dave Banda scoring on debut for KB.

Other three opening fixtures for the 2013 TNM Super League season also produced results.

At Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, Mighty Wanderers made a perfect start to the season as they saw off visiting Epac with goals from Victor Mpinganjira  In the 16th minute and Mike Kaziputa (penalty).

Playing without regulars Joseph Kamwendo, Moses Chavula, Gerald Chimbaka and Foster Namwela who they lost to Mozambique football, Wanderers were delighted with their new signing Omega Mhone who made the assist in the first goal and earned the blues a penalty in the 42 minute when he was fouled by Epac goalkeeper Tione Tembo.

Kaziputa made no mistake from the spot kick.

Epac coach Abbas Makawa was sent off for his verbal tirade against the referee for awarding Wanderers a penalty.

Wanderers led 2-0 at half time but Epac replied one after the interval through their marksman Ishmael Thindwa.

It was all joy for the blues in Blantyre after the win.

Wanderers deputy coach Albert Mpinganjira told Nyasa Times that the importance of getting off to a good start cannot be overstated as it lays the bedrock of confidence upon which future prosperity can be built.

Mpinganjira also picked his first 2013/14 TNM Super League Man-of-the-Match accolade.

At Zomba Community Centre, Red Lions trounced Mafco 3-0 in an all-soldiers affair.

Elsewhere Moyale Barracks lost 1-2 against visiting Blue Eagles at Chitowe Stadium in Dwangwa as John Banda returned from injury to be among the scorers for Eagles.
