Tiyese James was given High Court bail on July 1 this month for alleged robbery, arson and terrorising the community.

Lilongwe Police publicist, Kingsley Dandaula, confirmed the arrest of Tiyese James, 22, of Kaondo Village, T/A Tsabango in Lilongwe.

“He was arrested this morning when he wanted to report to the High Court as one of the conditions for his bail,” Dandaula said.

“ The community in Area 36 reported to us that the gang is still causing havoc in the area by beating up people, snatching cash from people, setting fire to people’s houses and robbing them,” Dandaula told Lilongwe News Agency.

It is said that if anybody refused to bow down to their demands, the gang high jacked their cars.

However, Dandaula said the police is assuring the general public, especially Area 36 residents, not to live in fear as police in doing everything possible to safeguard the general public.

According to police, Area 36 was in bad records with over 18 gangs like Sekaunye, Pink Girls, Zikwanje Crew, Soft Boys, Bad Boys, and Madala Gurus.

I very much concur with what Thom Banda has written about this WENI notorius leader hes really a pain in the neck.Just a cuple of days ago he beat up one of my nephews at a funeral in the neighbouhood of area 22B and I hear WENIs mother boast to say olo mwana wawo amumange lero a police aku area 24 ndi anzawo akangowapatsa ya fodya ammutulutsa mwana wawo Imagine hes really a problem. When the assult case eas reported to Kawale polce they reffereed us back to area24 but knowing that the area 24 police wont do anything we just diffused the matter.Tilibe chilichonse ife ndife a mphawi.Looksa like dziko limakondera opata.Pliz assist us with this WENI notorius gang leader imagine intimidating pple at a vigil/is that poroper?

  3. Thom Banda says:

THOUGH, NOT IN SUPPORT OF UMBANDA NDI UMBAVA

THE GOVE. SHOULD COME UP WITH DELIBERATE CITIZEN EMPOwERMENT PROGRAMES WHERE MALAWIANS CAN BE ASSISTED WITH LOW INTEREST LOANS TO START UP BUSINESSES WHICH WILL EVENTUALLY MAKE PEOPLE BE ABLE TO OWN BUSINESSES, ,CREATE EMPLOYMENT FOR THEM SELVES, AND MOST OF THESE YOUTHS WHO ARE IDLE WHO END UP IN SUCH GANGS. E.G. A NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT BANK WHICH WILL EDUCATE PEOPLE ON HOW TO RUN A BUSINESS, GIVE LOANS, MENTOR THE BUSINESS UNTIL IT HAS SUCCESSFULLY TAKEN OFF. ZOTERE, ZIDZACHEPETSA UMPHAWI NDI UMBAVA.

  7. Howard Kachipanda says:

A Polisi athuwa ngofunika kuwauza zoti azichita. Everything they do on their own is out of ignorance.

  8. Xander Jimmy says:

The facts clearly shows failure of current and previous governments to push adequate youth empowerment initiatives…….looking critically at the actions being put forward that resulted in arresting this 22 year old clearly indicates that the youth are idle whilst the govts kept on ignoring them(us) and favouring older people…….through initiatives like extending retirement age…….this action by govt can be construed as aknowledgement of inadequacy of skilled labour…….but status quo govt is not putting forward adequate resources to boost youth skills levels timely in order to beef up gap created through retirement and at same time government is stagnant interms of creating entry level jobs or apprenticeships for the youth…..this is really worrisome and pathetic for my fellow youth. The higher or rising in un employment rate for the youth will definitely result in idleness, poverty, desperateness etc and these things expose them to tempting situation like the way it is happening…….I am not trying to justify theft or burglary, but I feel the government need to look at root cause of this problem, rather than just focusing on consequencial effects….no matter how much resources are or will be allocated to our Police service, I really doubt if this shall be water under the bridge without sorting the problem wholistically………at age of 22,,, I really sympathize with this dude, he is just an innocent victim of our circumstance as being led by politicians…..and as for claim that he is a leader of a gang which is Continueing terrorising people…..psychologically I feel you caught a wrong person….considering human nature after first arrest…..if he is really a leader of that group akanawawuza anzakewo to slow down…..but continuance of those actions by so called group members just indicate that there is somebody who is leading such a notorious group and it’s not this 22 year old dude…..hence his failure to exercise control as befit one to deserve title as leader……Hence I am here by recommending that our police should do thorough investigations on this issue before rushing re arresting innocent youth and violating their rights…..only later to discover contrary facts!!! What those kids for the time being needs is rehabilitation whilst mukufufuza……don’t destroy their future prospects through false criminal records!!!
