Nsanje Lalanje MP Ganda burial will be held in Mwanza: Constituents stunned

Contrary to the expectations of most people in Nsanje particularly Lalanje constituents who expected late Sam Ganda to be buried in the area he represented as a Member of Parliament for two terms, it has been announced that the legislator will be laid to rest in Mwanza.

Ganda: Burial on Sunday in Mwanza

Parliament spokesperson Leonard Mengezi confirmed that family members have advised that the legislator who died in India Tuesday night be buried in Mwanza tentatively on Sunday.

The development has attracted debate among people in Nsanje with some wondering as to whether they were being represented in the parliament by a person who was originally from Nsanje.

“As constituents, we could have loved our member of parliament’s remains being buried here in Nsanje. He has been serving us as MP for almost eight years. We do not understand the rationale of burying him in Mwanza.

“The suggestion by the family to bury his remains in Mwanza raises a lot of suspicion and questions if we were being represented by an individual who comes from Nsanje district particularly Nsanje Lalanje Constituency,” noted one of the concerned Nsanje Lalanje Constituents.

But Traditional Authority Mbenje says he has no problem with the arrangement arguing though Ganda was originally from Nsanje and that his parents settled in Mwanza where they are also resting thus it is not wrong to have him buried there.

“The father of late Ganda was coming from Mlolo while the mother was coming from Mbenje in my area. The family settled in Mwanza where the father was working. For the family to decide where for him to be buried where his parents have been buried, I don’t think it is an issue,” clarified Traditional Authority Mbenje.

He further revealed how he has received the death of Ganda news by describing it as heartbroken as he was an understanding man and developmental conscious.

Late Sam Ganda entered parliament as an independent member but joined the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) then defected to People’s Party (PP) and rejoined DPP after he won as an independent when he defeated PP’s candidate Lawrence Sitolo.

Nsanje Lalanje lawmaker Sam Ganda died at an Indian hospital on Tuesday.

He has died at the age to 53 and he survived by a wife and two children.
