Ntchisi farmer wins tractor in Standard Bank promo
Standard Bank on Friday conducted the final draw of its Mlimi Alirenji promotion where a Ntchisi tobacco farmer Samalani Mingu emerged a winner of a grand prize of a brand new tractor valued at K16 million.
Migu 49 hails from Chisamba village in the area of Traditional Authority Chilooko and started growing tobacco in 2005.
When the news was broke to him that he has emerged the grand winner said the tractor will help in modernising his tobacco farming.
“I’m very happy that I have won this prize of a tractor which will help to improve my tobacco farming” said Mingu
Standard Bank Head of Sales-Global Markets said the Mlimi Alirenji Promotion has registered tremendous success with over 10,000 tobacco growers participated in the promotion.
“Having reached this far, I must commend tobacco farmers for their loyalty to Standard Bank. Their support has ensured that this promotion kept running as scheduled. The promotion achieved its intended objectives, and far exceeded our expectations in terms of patronage and volume of transactions registered,” said Kazima
Kazima re-affirmed Standard Bank’s commitment to supporting tobacco farming which remains the country’s major export commodity.
“The grand prize of a tractor underscores our commitment to invest in the country’s agriculture sector. Through this tractor, Mr Mingu will automatically graduates into a mechanized farmer. He will be able to pass the efficiencies from the tractor in the tobacco value chain,” he said.
Launched in April 2016, the promotion aims at rewarding tobacco farmers with competitive rates on their dollars, while giving them an opportunity to win farm inputs and tools to support their next season’s production.
Apart from a grand prize of a tractor Standard Bank has also given out hessian sacks, baling jacks, solar power banks, t-shirts and caps to over 700 farmers during fortnight draws.
