Ntchisi health workers go on strike over salary delays

Workers from various public hospitals in Malawi’s central district of Ntchisi have started an indefinite strike in protest against the delay in receiving their September payment.

A medical worker at Ntchisi district hospital told Nyasa Times that medical workers have posted writings on the hospitals walls informing the patients that no service will be offered as they are on strike.

“No service is being offered here. Some patients are seeking medical services to nearby private clinic while those with no money are returning home without any assistance,” said the medical practitioner.strike 0

The workers have agreed to resume work until they got a convincing reason from government officials on the delays of their salaries.

District Health Officer Dr Webster Chirambo confirms the work boycott of all health workers saying health authorities are meeting the representatives oh health workers to inform them that the salary delays have not affected the district only.
