Nyasa Times celebrates 10-year anniversary: To hold banquet

Malawi’s leading online news source, Nyasa Times is this year celebrating a milestone after a decade of existence serving Malawians and the world at large as a reliable news output.

Nyasa Times anniversary

In addition to building an award-winning online publishing platform, Nyasa Times has over the past decade redefined what it means to be a global local news source working on the internet for Malawi at home and in the Diaspora.

In commemorating the 10th anniversary, Nyasa Times will mark the occasion with a sumptuous banquet that will be dictated by pomp, glitz and glamour.

The red carpet event, which is being billed to be one of the most unforgettable events of all times will play host to the guests with a bountiful full-buffet and an avalanche of roof-bursting entertainment, is expected to be held at the magnificent Hilton Hotel, which is situated at the heart of Leeds City centre.

Organising committee chairperson Rhodrick Junaid Kalumpha and his official James Woods Nkhutabasa have confirmed saying everything is set and all good to go.

Kalumpha disclosed there will be a humble  entry to the function   – all enjoying VIP treatment – but emphasized that further details will be communicated later in due course.

“I am so honoured to have been given such a huge responsibility. Nyasa Times is one of the biggest media technological innovations of this generation and to have come in this decade for our country. Through Nyasa Times, Malawians and people from other walks of life have been informed, educated and entertained,” said London-based Kalumpha.

Since it was established in 2006 Nyasa Times has quadrupled in size and now has its readership extended to every corner of the world and through the years gained an enviable reputation for innovation and quality.

Nyasa Times Media Group Chief Executive Officer Edgar Chibaka says it is great to be able to look back over the past 10 years and see how far we’ve come.

Said Chibaka: “It hasn’t been an easy  journey but we are very proud of what we have achieved and we will continue to work even harder. We’ve been lucky enough to work with a wide range of the audience in this case a diverse readership, businesses and organisations, both in Malawi and abroad.

“We are very proud to have gained a reputation for innovating, creating a competitive and high quality journalism solutions for all Malawians regardless of social class.”

Ten years, more than a billion posts, and 8 billion comments later, Nyasa Times is growing stronger than ever and plans for a television station.

Nyasa Times editorial director Thom Chiumia remarked: “We are very delighted to reach this milestone and we very are proud that through the years we have made an enormous contribution to the Malawian society both in the Diaspora and at home. We owe it to the massive support we received and continue to receive from our readers.”

Established in 2006, Nyasa Times now has readership across the globe and has an army of vibrant and industrious journalists in every corner of the country and beyond the borders.

“We are proud of what we have achieved over the last decade and work hard to maintain our service delivery. We had bad moments but we survived whilst keeping in mind our values; we really are passionate about informing Malawians and the rest of the world,” said Chiumia.

Nyasa Times said more details of the entertainment package for the celebrations will be released but pleased to have secure the venue – Hilton Hotel Leeds.

It will also be a double-header celebrations with another dinner and dance to be held in Malawi.

Congratulations. Wherever an ardent Malawian on line news follower is, the first one to check is Nyasatimes. If it’s not on Nyasatimes, then you doubt the news!

Firstly, let me congraturate you guys for clocking 10 years. Since I went to university in 2007, you have been my only trusted online news outlet visted during my whole studying period. I am now outside Malawi, you are still my only daily visited online news outlet. When I hear any breaking news, I first check with you guys if it’s true, if it does not appear on your page, then I give that story a doubtful status until it appears on your page. Once again, congrats and big up!!! But this does not mean there is no room for… Read more »

Excellent news Nyasa Times. You are truly Malawi’s best news source. Just a small need to review some articles you publish to ensure the professionalism is kept. With that said…excellent news site.

Greta news on seeing Rhodrick and James involved in this.

Congratulations!! Will certainly attend.

Congrats nyasa times. You can help Malawi in her rebuilding strides if you also carry major Reforms in the selection of your reporters and some of your wild articles. Try well trained ones not those only looking for money. You report on individuals with families and you end up destroying them. You never apologize when you are in the wrong and yet you want Malawi Citizenry to do good all the time. I hear there is a word called Balancing, and I wonder whether after your 10 year celebrations, you can embrace this word vigorously.

Again Congrats
