Nyasa Times journo Kimpho Loka scoops award for promoting Malawi urban music
Nyasa Times’ entertainment reporter, Kimpho Loka, on Saturday received a special recognition for his dedication to promoting Malawi urban music as he scooped the 2013 Urban Music Party (UMP) Online Award.
He was voted alongside Blantyre Newspapers Limited (BNL)’s Clifton Kawanga and Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Radio 2 FM’s James Gumbwa The two were voted the best in print and radio, respectively.
The UMP Media Awards were arranged by the urban music organising team, headed by Nde’feyo Entertainment and Prime Time Media, to recognise the role the media is playing in promoting local urban music in the country.
The three journalists were voted by 36 Malawi urban musicians who were nominated to perform at the UMP festival, which took place last weekend at Blantyre Cultural Centre.
The award is Loka’s second in his career, after he also won the Best Online Reporter in the 2012 E-Wallet Talent Show.
