One fan predicted correctly Wanderers would lose 2-4 to Mzuni: Malawi’s TNM Super League

Out of over 12,000 entries that entered the TNM Super League’s ‘Predict and Win’ supporters’ SMS promotion competition for the match between Mighty Be Forward Wanderers and Mzuni FC, only one got it correctly that the Nomads would lose 2-4 to the less-fancied Mzuzu-based university team.

He is Likoma Island-based fan Amista Shabani and he won the K50,000 weekly prize of the competition, which — together with another called ‘Sapota Kawawa’ — is intended to create a platform for supporters to actively engage themselves throughout the 2016 TNM Super League season.

This was an interesting prediction considering that Mzuni, who can comfortably be voted as the most improved team of the first round of the TNM Super League, went to Blantyre as underdogs to meet Wanderers — one of the league’s supposedly giants.

Though Mzuni managed to also clobber Wanderers 3-0 during last season’s second round at Mzuzu Stadium after losing 1-2 in the first round at Kamuzu Stadium, nobody imagined that the students would hit four past the Nomads at their home turf — except Shabani.

A sensible prediction in favour of Mzuni could probably have been 1-0, 2-1 or a draw of 0-0 or 1-1 as many did, but Shabani has surprised people by coming up with the 4-2 win.

There was also an interesting prediction last month when 39 people predicted correctly that rookies Karonga United could beat defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets 1-0 during their match at Mzuzu Stadium.

It happened just like that but at least it was a safer and more reasonable score margin. Loveness Mphonde got the prize of K50,000 after a draw was conducted.

This month’s winner of K100,000 went to Zomba-based Bullets fan, Malinga Tambula, who predicted right that Mzuzu-based Moyale Barracks would beat their fellow soldiers Red Lions 1-0.

The monthly and weekly draws were done on Tuesday at TNM head office in Blantyre.

TNM’s Public Relations & Sponsorship Manager Limbani Nsapato said there were over 100,000 predictions and 14,400 were correctly, representing a 14.5 percent.

This the launch of the promotion, the top flight league sponsors have splashed out a total of K1.25 million — K400,000 and 2,000 packages of airtime worth MK2,500 each.

The ‘Sapota Kawawa’ promotion is restrictes to social media, which allows soccer lovers a chance to post their photos captured at the stadiums on TNM’s social media pages.

Nsapato said they were also impressed with the level of participation by the fans through the promotion as well as the hype that has been displayed by the teams.

The grand cash prize of the ‘Predict and Win’ is K1.5 million to be given away at the end of the season in December.
