Phoya: A Lap Dance in the Jaws of Insanity!

I wish I could cut government some slack and sagginess. I wish I could have so many positive things to say about this administration.

Like I always say, there is so much infrastructure development going on so that it would be a very wonderful experience to write about it beautifully.

But alas! Every time I am about to do so I find myself faced with the humongous task of trying to sift through the untidiness of unnecessary and nonsensical spew from people like Henry Dama Phoya who are more often than not dreadfully guilty of ghastly misjudgement.

Frankly, President Bingu Mutharika was right on the money when he talked about government working together with the opposition in his State of the Nation address. My understanding was that the two sides were going to debate all outstanding issues by communicating appropriately and treating each other with respect.

I am sure that was the main thread of his speech.

Unfortunately, it seems when the President was addressing the nation; Dama Phoya was so engrossed in poking his nose so hard, so that he missed the whole speech. His latest despicable oral ejections aimed at the Opposition were a complete departure from the President's plea for reconciliation and unity.

In his usual bigoted manner, Phoya chose to exhibit his intolerance and political naivety in one full fly down, with statements that estranged all observers who are willing to give government a chance, when he dared the opposition to go to court if they are not happy with Parliament sitting without quorum. Goodness me!

Well as a Malawian citizen, who pays so much tax, I feel it is my duty to make my views known to this "self-styled wooer".

I don't think Phoya was reasonable when he told off the Opposition to go to court, when just a couple of days ago the President was advocating peace and reconciliation at the opening of the sitting of parliament.

Surely, Phoya may want government to zoom to the pole position but this is not formula one politics. And how does he reconcile his bottom of the barrel remarks and the President's words of nation building? Yuh?

Politics nowadays isn't just about being loud mouthed to the press but tackling issues with maturity and class. The duty of the opposition we all know is to provide checks and balances, which means demagogues like Phoya and his childish lot should not trifle them with.

Phoya should know that he just increased the credibility gap when he made those tactless declarations.

If anything Henry should not even be talking about the law, let alone the courts, when he can strike dirty deals with back street mercenaries like Graham Alistair Raymond Minnaar and his accessory.

If anything, he has committed enough professional breaches to deserve to be debarred from the bench.

It is amazing that Phoya threw all caution through the window, by not finding it abnormal for him to encourage the Opposition to go to court, while almost every patriotic Malawian is complaining about the abuse of courts by government and politicians. Lunacy?

Such posturing just serves to show us that Phoya and his colleagues are people who don't have faith in their negotiating skills and should not be trusted by any human being.

Get this Phoya! It is not the duty of government to engage in farcical legal dalliances with its citizens. This is just a waste of rare resources and primordial in its most archaic sense. Leave that for Robert Mugabe.

We have not yet attained that primitive status-moreover!

You would think that a learned lawyer would be the first one to discourage the lay people from abusing the courts. Not in Malawi. Here is Phoya for you, leading the abusive charge!

This entire wrath aimed at the opposition is totally out of order and typical of vindictive and kitchen sink politics. It should not be entertained at all.

No matter how much Phoya and his friends try to twist the truth about the situation at parliament, time will still come when they will have to deal with the opposition and stare reality in the face.

Today he may behave like a constipated pig-no problem—we will give him the gasbags.

But the truth remains and it is a fact that there is a very big problem that is creating this tense situation.

Tiptoeing around Section 65 will not guarantee any movement in any direction. This is a monster that has to be dealt with —for the sake of the rule of law, democracy and complete sanity.
