The new office, according to OBM’s chief operating officer Wilson Moleni is expected to serve the rural and semi urban population in Balaka and surrounding areas.

Speaking after unveiling the new office, which is located next to Balaka Stadium, Moleni observed there was a lot of business in the eastern region district and the surrounding areas, yet the locals were missing out on some of the friendly banking services offered by OBM.

Moleni, however, said the new office will only be handling services related to account opening,

“As you are aware, we recently launched Agent Banking and already we have over 200 agents throughout the country. About seven of the agents are based here in Balaka so all the withdraws and deposits will be done through these agents,” said Moleni.

Chairman of Balaka Town Assembly, Patrick Bottoman who was guest of honour at the opening ceremony hailed OBM for expanding its services to the rural and semi urban population.

Bottoman assured OBM and other financial institutions operating in Balaka that the council would continue working hand-in-hand with the police to ensure the environment remains safe for business.

The new office has been established with funding from UK based People’s Postcode Lottery.
