Organisers content with inaugural Malawi Fashion Week

Organisers of the recently ended inaugural Malawi Fashion Week (MFW) 2013 have described the event as a success.

MFW 2013 Public Relations Manager, Kimpho Loka, said it had been an amazing event that lived up to its billing while describing the quality of the designs as ‘classic.’

“It is a milestone for the fashion industry in the country. Malawi Fashion Week is there to promote and help market the talented designers and right now our designers are not on the same level as they were before. The designers clearly demonstrated that Malawi has talent.

“It’s been an amazing weekend of fashion. We’re so proud that after a long journey Malawi has finally made a mark on the world through the inaugural Malawi Fashion Week which was full of glamour as it brought together people from all walks of life that were part of this historic event,” he said.

Loka added that the maiden Malawi Fashion Week has not brought exposure for the local designers but also created marketing opportunities for their products.

“MFW is there to promote local designers so during the event we had fashion shop owners, fashionistas, the public and all these are buyers. We also had the local and international media who will give more exposure to these designers locally and internationally,” he said.

Despite all the challenges, Loka said the hardships kept them going because there were doing it for the love of Malawi hence focused much on the positives and thanked God that MFW 2013 has been a success.

The MFW 2013 publicist expressed delight with the reception from the general public and the support the event received from the corporate world.

“The turnout was good, more especially on the opening night. We are delighted that after a long journey Malawi has finally made a mark in the fashion and modeling industry,” he said.

Among others, Malawi Fashion Week 2013 was sponsored by Old Mutual, Blantyre Newspapers Ltd, Kalikuti Hotel, Darling Stripes, Mercantile, Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS), FM 101 Radio, Vogue, Pipe It and Divalicious boutique.--Malawi News Agency
