Peter Mutharika joins Facebook: Launches ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ page
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) president Prof. Peter Mutharika has joined the most popular social networking site, Facebook allowing users to connect with the presidential hopeful online.
The DPP confirmed the profile Arthur Peter Mutharika on Facebook is a genuine account of him.
Mutharika will be featured in video interviews, photos and news items on the page called ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’ to be run by his aides.
“Peter Mutharika’s Pursuit of Happiness is an official Facebook page that has been opened with the public in mind,” said a statement made available to Nyasa Times.
“The Pursuit of Happiness is a journey towards a happy nation sharing a message to all citizens that Malawi Democracy is our destiny, we call upon fellow leaders that they should stand together to stand firm and, speak with one voice loud and clear, that Malawi has a right to a better future, if we remain patriotic to the pursuit of happiness we can rise and be the heroes of tomorrow.”
And people can become “friends” with Peter Mutharika and “like” the page . Already hundreds of people had requested him to be friends.
Users will be able leave messages or comments on the page and find details of political campaign meetings.
The social media venture has seen President Joyce Banda having her official page.
Another presidential candidate, Austin Atupele Muluzi of UDF, has had a personal account on Facebook which he joined years back.
