Petra gives hope to penniless Malawians during Xmas

The opposition People’s Transformation party (Petra) says Malawians who have failed to enjoy this year’s Christmas celebrations because of financial problems should not lose hope saying “this will be the last gloomy Christmas to be caused by greedy dishonest and hypocritical leaders.”

The party’s president Kamuzu Chibambo said this  in a brief statement made available to Nyasa Times Tuesday evening.

He said it is sad that the country is going through one of the toughest economic times which he noted has been caused by embezzlement of over MK20 billion [from government coffers] forcing the donors withdrawing their financial support “due to greed, dishonesty and hypocrisy.”

“Poverty has worsened in the country; hospitals lack basic drugs like antibiotics, intravenous fluids, anti –rabies vaccine, bandages etc , standards of living have collapsed, corruption and plundering public resources has become a norm, maize is expensive and increasingly becoming scarce,” he says.

Chibambo says it is against this background which has made the majority of Malawians have a most unpleasant Christmas and therefore “Petra and its leadership wish to assure you fellow Malawians that this will be the last gloomy Christmas to be caused by greedy dishonest and hypocritical leaders.“

He says Petra shall fight to make this dream a reality and bring about change for the sake of the poor Malawians – he did not elaborate.

“As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord may his peace pacify, encourage and give you hope.”

Civil servants especially teachers have been complaining that they are not going to enjoy their Christmas and New Year festivities after government sent them on Christmas holiday without giving they them their payment.
