As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, PIL has in the year 2016 set aside  K58 million that will be used to assist two sectors in health and education.

The Mangochi donation has come about as part of support to the health sector.

Speaking during the donation PIL General Manager, Enwell Kadango said the company acknowledges that most hospitals need help in various areas to function properly when assisting Malawians that is why as a company PIL believes supporting the health sector is a befitting gesture.

Kadango said through a Programme called “Heal our Nation/Keep our sector running” PIL has partnered Ministry of Health such that some health institutions will benefit from various donations although the company’s role is to import fuel.

“Although our main role as PIL is to bring fuel into the country, we believe we share some of the vision with the health sector to ensure development progress fuel availability as well as healthy people through good health health delivery system,

“The same people that PIL serve with fuel are the same people who patronise the hospitals when they have various ailments,” said Kadango.

Kadango added that various wards at the hospital will benefit from the medical equipment and that people from Mangochi and the whole eastern region will make use of the items as the hospital gets equipped for safe delivery of the health system.

District Health Office for Mangochi Dr William Peno said the donation will go a long way as it will help cover up the gaps that are there in as far as equipment is concerned.

“We have decided to target the donation towards the martenity ward which has some gaps in far as equipment is concerned. The items donated today will also go a long way in improving the lives of mothers and children at the ward,” said Dr Peno who added that most of the equipment at the hospital are old.

PIL donation comprises of 1 Oxygen concentrator, 20 mattresses, 15 digital thermometers, 5 digital blood pressure machine, 1 wheel chair, 20 gum boots, 3 sterilising drums, 2 hospital beds and 30 metres mackintosh mats.

PIL, a private company, has been importing fuel for the country since 1999.
