Malawi Police in Phalombe district are keeping custody a 22-year-old Stephen Jamson, a teacher Chilingwe Primary School for defiling a 13-year-old standard seven girl.arrested man

The girl (name withheld) is a pupil at Lujeri Primary School.

Mulanje police publicist Gresham Ngwira disclosed in an interview that Jamson had been making sexual advances on the girl until on Tuesday last week when he forced him on her.

“The victim, who passes by suspect’s home when going to school narrates that on 17th May, 2016 at around 6pm, as she was going back home, the suspect asked her to escort him to Kamwendo which is also in the same direction to her home,” explained Ngwira.

“Although she refused, he insisted and followed her on her way. Arriving at Chitoni stream, the suspect is said to have pushed the girl to the ground, pulled her underwear and defiled her”.

Jamson is said to have threatened to kill the girl with a knife if she called for help.

“All along he has been lying to her that his name is Arthur Pananji. After he defiled her, the girl found some chance to cross the stream and hid in a tea estate waiting for him to leave. Later on at around 10pm she went to the head teacher of Chilingwe Primary School where she reported the matter,” added Ngwira.

“The following morning people went to the scene of the incident where they found the girl’s sweater, an under-wear and a note which had the name mentioned by suspect the previous day including two cell-phone numbers one of which the suspect admits to be his”.

Medical examination results confirm that the girl was indeed defiled.

Jamson hails from Mitengo village, T/A Nkhumba in Phalombe district.

He will arraign on Defilement charges contrary to Section 138 of Penal Code.

“We therefore advise all well-meaning citizens to be responsible enough and protect the girl child. A teacher is a father/ mother hence we expect him/her to take part in protecting not just a girl child but all who are vulnerable. As police we will not relent but arrest all those caught on the wrong side of law such as the case in question,” added Ngwira.
